That would be awesome, though im not sure i have access to the market place yet because im a wee baby.

I just took 4-5 cabins, 1 trap door, 2 trenches and 6 straight to low nute transfers and 2 plates straight hot pour.

We'll see 🤷‍♂️

Practice is practice, If i can clean it awesome. If not it buys my time to get to the market place for a spore print.

I don't think I have a ttbvi print. I got a bunch of other spare cyan prints. You can work some new stuff while you practice cleaning up the TTBVI. Let me know if you're interested.

I do. It has a trich spot so it's a no go sadly who knows I might attempt to transfer outer edge away from the trich as trich kinda is in a spot it hopefully ain't spored everything tho it's probably cooked.

Still it's good experience to work on my transfers n sterile workflow

That’s all mold homie.

If it went from this

Heres the t3 of the "mold" there's the faintest pin abort which is what makes me think it aint mold. And the growth has been fairly consistently mold like xd

Will do xd got nothing to lose and it's a complete learning experience  I'ma try to do some grains today n do up a few

(I promise il get over the learning curve eventually)

Im to curious to. Not send it to learn more atp lol

I haven't encountered a mold that grows as fast as it lol so itl be interesting eather way

(For example it is probably on pace with 4x to 6x faster than trich)

Who knows I might make a slide outa it n save for when I get a microscope

How did you cross the two? I’ve a suspicion that they won’t naturally pair up as they are genetically too distinct. I’d agree that it’s too early for IND-01 pins, they are also phentotypically dissimilar.

My guess is that they might form a dikaryon (f0).  But those fruit bodies would look terrible (if they pin).  And that most spores would be sterile (if they fruit).

Getting two nuclei in the same cell isn't even the beginning of a cross hybrid in other words.

And they use pheromones to try to look for a compatible mates. Using techniques to force dikaryons doesn't make the cross a success.

That said, I do know that mexi and tamps have been crossed. So it might be possible to cross these as well.  But the f1+ is probably going to take some time to stabilize.

Crossing two and four spored species is a whole different thing though.  Even if they are more closely related, because the crossover patterns are very different.

But cyans and ind01 both produce enough four spored basidia that a cross is feasible.

Re: Official Copelandia/Panaeolus Thread [Re: tree frog]

So the second batch of blocks soured in a couple days after spawning as well. I'm a bit confused on why. The first batch I did at 160F, 100% steam, for 13 hours (accidentally). The second batch was done at 155F, 100% steam, for 2.5 hours. Each block was around 2 quarts (890g) of substrate (2/3 coir, 1/3 sifted Black Kow), compressed, with the lip of the bags folded down. I then load the bags into the unit right-side up, with the plastic container upside down on top to keep the bag lips from blowing open during the process.

I know I could just give up on the piece of equipment and try another way to pasteurize, but I'm determined to get this to work so I can use it in the future for larger blocks and gourmet fungi. I've made a single test bag of substrate to run in the morning with the unit's internal probe stuck in the side to get better readings.

I have questions for you fine folk before I do it though.

1. Since both the previous runs failed in the same way, even though one definitely got to 160F internal because it ran for 13 hours, and the other definitely didn't cook for too long, why do y'all think they both soured? It wasn't the spawn, because the sterilized substrates I did never soured after spawning.

2. Should I do the next batch at 170F ambient temp, or 145? It seems to me that I'm either getting the substrate too hot, or not hot enough. What I have noticed is the bags do not contaminate with any molds. I do spawn under my flowhood, so there wouldn't be any contamination from the spawning process. That makes me think I might be killing all the beneficial bacteria, or not getting it hot enough to kill the bad bacteria.

3. When doing cube subs in the past, I'd use hydrated lime in the substrate when pasteurizing. But I've seen on this thread that a higher pH in the casing is required for fruiting Pans. Would liming my substrate help fight the souring without causing an issue once cased and birthed?

I gave up on manure-based subs years ago when growing cubes because it was easier without manure. I'm definitely interested in trying the non-manure substrates you folks are getting good success with, but I've already spent enough money that I don't want to spend any more until I successfully fruit. Besides, I'd like to master manure-based before switching up in case I want to play around with Agaricus species later on.

Id bump up time to 4 hours at 160 to 170f :hatsoff:

Biochar is made by making charcoal in a low oxygen high temp environment n I'm using that as sub it survives 400f+ temps n don't sour.

Kinda unrelated though my point being is always assume it's to cold before id assume to hot. And also Ive heard most have success using oven sterilization using 3+ hours most do it for more I believe.

Think 170 would be the safe bet

That was the original plan (160F for 4 hours) the first batch, when I accidentally cooked them for 13 hours. That batch, and the 2.5 hour batch both soured in the same amount of time after spawning. By suggesting 170F are you thinking I didn't get the sub hot enough the first two batches?

Technically the unit is a convection oven/zero-pressure steamer. I guess it does make sense that since I spawn under my flowhood that it'd probably be safe if I over-pasteurized and got into partial sterilization.

Well it's possible some of the inside of the sub doesn't heat up to temps required for pasteurization withen the time limited and some people store them at certain temps after pasteurization to improve healthy bacteria to improve effectiveness of the pasteurization so idk 😶

I am inexperienced with nutrient added substrates and with true pasteurization just read alot about it from others here

I guess I could try doing them without compressing the blocks and just leaving the substrate loose. I can seal the bags so it doesn't matter if the bag lip flips open.

Ok. I’ve never grown Pans but I just got a print and I’m gonna give them a go. Before I try to read 2171 pages of this thread, is this the best place to learn how to grow them? Or could someone explain to me like I’m 5 years old how to grow them? I have a climate controlled Martha style set up. I have experience getting from spore to clean colonized grain.

The first page of this thread has tree frogs guide to pans. And Baba Yaga's pans in tubs (link in my signature) are 2 really good sources.

Culture work is THE most important part of pans. They are not as forgiving as cubes. Culture Culture Culture.

Edit:

Faht grows pans for the sake of art
Kloakk is solid too
Baba has one of the best write ups imo
Puff is a dragon wise beyond his years.

They are all amazing sources of quality info and humble beyond belief so im here to toot the horn.

At the very bottom of the page there is a 'search this thread' search bar. More than likely your question is in here, but also, dont hesitate to ask.

I work with manure substrate. Just coir and manure so take this with a grain of salt.

I try for a center temp between 145-155f. 160 is technically still pasteurization, but i don't like it getting that high.

Microbes start dying above 165, but a PC at 15psi is something lije 221f. I wouldn't personally call something sterile until that temp is reached.

Also, pasteurization failure for me usually results in pin mold or trich and shows up on my sub in a week.

I'm not sure how this translates into what you're doing but extra information is always useful.
