I feel you on this 100%. I only take my meds on work days, but when I'm at home, I got the paralysis like a motherfucker. I know this and still choose to not take my meds when I'm off work. I don't hate taking them, but I still haven't figured out why I won't.

You're onto something there mate! :snoop:

Never heard this.  But makes sense.

Honestly "high functioning"  used to be a term strictly associated with Aspergers syndrome. But.  first of all. they got rid of the name because of its negative relation to its nazi history.

And then they just got rid of it all together for the reasons mentioned above and below.

My son's on the spectrum. They pretty much don't even use the word high functioning anymore. Because it's still just part of the spectrum.

Really they use it more and in levels. How much assistance do you need on a daily. How independent and capable of you at doing every day task.

Calling him high functioning just makes it seem like he is less Autistic or whatever then another.. really he/they're just autistic.

ADD,ADHD, ODD, OCD, ASD.  Are all classified as on the spectrum.

My son is like a level 2. He needs basically 80 to 90% physical assistance. And even more social /emotional assistance. He's also non-verbal.
His autism absolutely controls and influences every aspect of his and our lives.

But in regards to everything else.  is more like a level one..

meaning he understands everything you say and do. If he could speak he definitely would.

and you would probably At this point say if it weren't for his physical disabilities. he is most certainly

"High functioning"  but his autism comes with all sorts of barriers and limitations. That would then make you say oh never mind.  no he's not.

Which is the whole point

One thing's for sure if you were to watch him for five minutes you would know immediately that he's on the Spectrum.  absolutely no denying it.

When people ask me about his autism "how autistic is he"

I pretty much just say he's kind of just in the middle on the spectrum.

My mom took me to get tested when I was a kid.

The doctor said the tests were inconclusive and he wanted to do more.

My mom, who is very obviously AudHd, took a literal stance and said "You just want to keep giving him tests until you can prove he has it" and took me out of the program.

I struggled in school non-stop from there. At one point I ended up in a special class with what I thought were "Artistic" kids. Looking back, they all were neurodivergent. We moved school districts at the end of that year so I never learned what the point of it was.

I continued being a D student right up until I started smoking weed at school. Over night I went from constantly being confused about what was going on to being able to focus and my grades improved practically overnight.

I often think about what my life would've been like had I had different support earlier on.

Now weed is causing all sorts of health issues and is financially prohibitive to continue, plus I work a job where I could go to jail from a hot test. It feels like getting diagnosed and medicated is my last option.

Apart from the troll and -seemingly- the baby killer apologist in the gutter (where's that bucket), I see some of my favorite posters!

Thanks Fid, have you moved yet? Things cooled down a little?

I just got moved into a new place and i made 12 jars the other night. they are sitting in the pressure cooker still. i didnt have any foil so i didnt use any.I had an extra trivet that I set on top. The lids were sfd stickers and mp tape. they were kinda rusty but totally useable. I have to inoculate them and I'm thinking about doing some agar work later tonight/early tomorrow morning.

The sounds very similar to my story too depending on what age you are..  We've come a long way when it comes to diagonals and autistic children.

I was diagnosed with aged at in the 3rd grade. Unfortunately that there was so little information on it at the time. It basically just got me medication and not much help with anything else at least in regards to schooling. I dropped out for the first time in seventh grade and then ultimately for the last time two weeks into the 9th grade.

UnFortunately still to this day people go undiagnosed until they're late 20s.

And it's simply because we just didn't have enough information and experience with it until now..

It's even worse for girls lots of girls just go undiagnosed. It's extremely hard to tell with them. Especially early on.

One thing's for sure getting a diagnosis is always  the best thing you can definitely do..

It will open doors you never thought were possible for you and allow you whatever benefits and privileges come along with that.

Which in most cases is quite a lot.. def  worth looking into.  Id go for it.

Also Simply Having the diagnosis will help you get things done way quicker. When it comes to trying to obtain these benefits.

My son's life is absolutely 100% better because of his diagnosis.

He was diagnosed at 2yrs.

Kloakk I’ve felt so guilty for a long time because whenever I read your name it invokes the English word “cloaca” but in a moment of curiosity googled your username and just realized it’s not a coincidence

I thought it was me making your username dirty but it actually just is dirty, and that makes me feel much less shameful

damn and here I thought it was like "cloak" the garment, especially given that the avatar is wearing one.
