Just a dunk will work

For me it depends on the knife I'll either finish it off with the good leather strop or I'll use a ultra fine grit diamond plate.

Sometimes depending on what they're going to be cutting. It can be good to have a little bit of the burr left on. But only a little bit. Acts like a serrated edge in a way.

But ultimately finishing up with the leather strop is the way to go.

I like the little pill pouch buggies from CVS or walgreens.  the perfect size and thickness.

Makes bending them open and holding them open while making transfers into them a lot easier in my opinion.

I never thought of keeping the burr for a semi serrated edge, thats ingenious:rockon:

Some household vacuum sealers have a lil wand that comes off that you can use with special mason jar lids that have a one way valve on them for vac sealing jars at room temp. Alternately I'm wondering if you could hot water bath them with 2 piece lids to get heat and vacuum in the mix.

This is true, I use a sous vide to pasteurize my substrate in jars and it creates a vacuum seal

Depending on how the previous roll looks after the dunk, I either apply, skip, or partially apply fresh vermiculite.

You can also try bottom watering and skip the dunk altogether between flushes.

I'd really appreciate a link(or how to) to a pasturization tek that uses an oven roasting bag.

Unless you are doing a lot of jars I would just go with an unmodified media bottle and free pour. Less steps means less vectors for contamination.

I prefer the small 100ml media bottles, fill them between 40 to 80ml depending on what I need and do a Josex's poke to inoculate the broth.

Agar to grains and grain to grain I use the wide mouth leak-proof lids with a SFD glued with RTV.

This from Eat You Alive is the one that pops in my head when I hear oven pasteurization.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20822448

should just work as well with a roasting bag instead of a turkey tin.

what are you pasteurizing?

I'm pretty sure my media bottles let air through the gap between the lid and bottle. I left some in a room with a fan for a couple weeks and every one was mold city.

I made some Dreamer bottles to solve that issue:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29169354#29169354

I haven't had a chance to test them yet, but as long as I use them in front of a flow hood, I don't see any way for mold to make it in. Hopefully, LI won't need to be single use anymore.

Are you adding injection ports to your bottles? or do the caps already have them? Or do you risk opening it up?

On another note, I do have a warped Presto 23qt. Been slightly warped at the bottom for years, I think from a misguided attempt at cooking on a glass stove top. Never ran dry.

A- How unsafe is this overall?

B- If it caused unequal sterilization, grain jars would contaminate when left alone, right? How quickly would that show up?

A couple of fellas here advocate for free pouring LC/Li but I've got an issue with this method; with an injection, you can be pretty selective when drawing out the liquid from the jar/bottle in an effort to draw out less liquid and more mycelium but with just free pouring you can not and you end up pouring a lot of unnecessary liquid and not as much mycelium. Convince me I'm wrong : D

Yes that's true. Bottom watering is awesome

I use sauce jars and sauce jar lids (cuz I used to be a broke boi using broke boi tek and I converted about 15 jars for that purpose and have never really need more)

I just use micropore as a filter and a self healing injection port (they are cheap on amazon)

@Huskies... How warped is the PC. Lets see a pic

@Koma23... You could potentially mitigate the free pouring problem by using a sterile needle to suck up the non mycelial liquid leaving only densely myceliated LC/LI.

Moment of shame

Other question, I harvested these late from a tub that got contaminated.

Dried weird, had some wounds on the mushroom. Looks like pseudomonas? Anyhow, are these safe or no?

I personally dont see any warping and the shrooms look good to me. When you say warping are you talking about the color?

Thats not a problem. The gas stove heats up the entire pot to the same temperature because metal distributes the heat evenly and the water inside distributes the heat evenly as well

@Droner66

Depends on if you're using MultiSporesSyringes (MSS) or a Cloned Tissue

Mss has more of a chance of being diverse and clones look more identical
