Washing Shrooms

Yeah made the mistake of washing my golden teachers the day after drying them. So now nearly all of them have turned black. But they’re now fully dry again and crispy. They smell normal and nothing slimy either. But from what I read by washing them I decreased their potency. But are they still safe to consume? Will be storing them in ziploc baggies with desiccant to keep them dry.

I’m new to growing, this is my 2nd grow bag. Thanks for any advice!

Wait you washed them after you dried them :confused2:

Standard food safety rules apply. They probably won't hurt you if they don't stink and are not moldy. But I wouldn't expect a lot either.

Washing will indeed reduce potency as psilocybe stuff is water solable I believe

Im sure they are still safe to eat (although they might taste even worst), but why would you wash your shrooms? :strokebeard: Next time, use a dry rag or paper towel.

Thanks for some feedback!

Yeah it all started because I had alot of side pins that were pretty dirty. So decided to quick wash for about a minute using a strainer, didn't soak them. Then decided to wash the rest of my first flush. Few hours later noticed they turned black and decided well... NOW would be a good time to research this.

Day late and a dollar short! :grin:

But yeah I figured they should still be ok to eat. Guess I just wanted to hear some confirmation from you experts out there!

By the way, what to do when they start growing out the sides? I'm doing growbags. I've read once they start doing that its hard to stop them. Was thinking of transferring to a bigger bag to give them more room. Already took out the block to get the side pins out.

Pretty sure I know how I caused it, didn't push out enough air after I mixed it. Also dropped it once and banged it another time. Sorta breaking up the compaction, could see the moisture collecting at the sides.

So transfer to bigger bag or just let it go? Already noticed more side pins coming out. Nothing on top, its like its hardened. Add a little spray water to the top but its like it doesnt penetrate.

Yeah I'd take it out of the bag and fruit it in a water tub or fahtlock if the side pins are going crazy.

So decided to put it in a small trash bag, dont have a tub. But noticed something about this 2nd flush, is it just me or is that green in my mix? Also noticed white fluffies at the base of my GTs. Cause for concern?
