 Tales of eating contamed shrooms?????????????

Has anyone or does anyone know anyone who ate contamed shrooms? Any horror stories? If there are small spots(very small)is it still concidered alright to eat a shroom? Does the cake have to be pretty bad(25% or more) to toss. The reason I ask is cause my second flush in my casing is starting(should be a half ounce dry) and I have some very small spots of green(pinhead sized)and was just curious if there are any stats on the subject or rumors or stories, etc...

i accualy came on to ask the same question.i have a very very small amount of a green colered mold on my cakes and the just started to pin.it seems like the mold is going away, maybe dieing. i wanted to know if its okay to eat the shrooms if the mold isn't on them but just a little bit on the cakes. it seems like it would be alright to me but i could be wrong

It could have been the contam forum i suppose, but I put it in the grow forum. It is about me "growing" my casings. Owell, the mods can always move it if they want, so dont sweat it.

i've eaten som contamed shrooms (check out my past posts for pics).... although i can't actually say the shrooms themselves that we ate were contamed... only the cakes. having a biochem major roomie doesn't hurt either since she was able to determine that the contams were safe household molds, so we ate 'em :]. no horro stories here... regardless, i wouldn't suggest eating shrooms with any visible contamination... but that's just me. i got lucky once, but after hearing so many warnings, i probably wouldn't try it again... good luck!

it may look like just a little mold on the surface but the insides of the cakes/casings could be nasty and molded out. Personally I would try to cut out the mold and if it doesn't come back I'd eat the mushrooms, but if it did come back I'd just toss it. Also if the contaminated cakes/casings are in the same terrarrium as non-contaminated ones then I'd get them out or the mold will spread. Just remember that you never know and may have a deadly poisonous mold which even if you cut out could make you sick, so whatever you do don't blame me.

in my experience, the first sign of discolorization, i break the cake up into pieces and do a 12 hour dunk with a 1:100 bleach/water. then case. had great success.
of course when you break the cake and it is completely taken over, than chalk it up as a loss. not worth the risk. ya know

This is after a bleach dunk. I was mainly trying to see how ofter someone got sick off contamanated shrooms, of how ofter people ate them, or if there was any horror stories. So far so good, just as I suspected, there arent alot out there.
By the way you break up the casing first then dunk then re case?
