I have five Norwegian 1-coins stacked and taped i just gently placed them on the shaker when it get to 15PSI and it quiets down for a minute or two but then starts hissing pretty fiercly again at around 17-18, I have two 23 Qt presto's one is 8years old the other 10 lol (one the two dont know which) doesnt even get to pressure, it has a bulge on the bottom if you give it a spin it was actually spin very easily  So im just using the other one that has a flat bottom still and gets to pressure immediately, the seal is still fairly intact altho its taken a beating of the years.

Anyway i'm naturally very skittish when it comes to PC's so Im basically ALWAYS measuring the amounts of water left after each cycle all these years so I can at least have a heads up when my Presto starts becoming more and more radicalized, the moment I hear him chanting about going to Paradise and the duty of Auticlavic Brotherood im pulling the plug on him :typing:

Every time when i do grain for 90-120 min I have 1.5-2L water left after a cycle, I always listen for boiling inside as well during

Yo Sewer, we got the same Scale lol

These are my 10 year old trusted weights, 4 and 5 Norwegian single coins, I use those with 4coins for the most part. The electric tape has melted and hardened into a very non-slip surface during all these years, im never never changing it (I apparently had a magnet as well but cant say I rememer using it or making it tho lol)

So I have a few questions reagrding the restauration of this pup which simply just stopped pressurising around 2-3 years ago all of a sudden, even the little pop-up pressure indicator doesnt do much  on a full power boil except wiggles around for a few seconds every 10 minutes or so, its not jammed or anything. The empty vessel will effortlessly spin 1.5-2 rotations when you give it a light twirl, but the bottom surprisingly looks almost concave  no visble bulge whatsoever, it dont make sense how easily it spins

Bought it in 2016, worked fine for 2-3 years then eventually rubber seal ring shrank so much you couldnt even hold the lid right-side up the ring would just fall out, I cant say I remember the PC struggling with pressure during this time, so to expand the diameter to its original size I added a couple of centimieters of some nice quality silicone, after all these years you still cant even rip the stuff apart ( I know cause I tried doing just that earlier) feels like almost almost identical materials. Shaved the oter edge with a razor blade until it fit perfectly inside the lid, its around 5mm thick layer. After this was fixed (as well as not having any handles on this PC they broke off many years ago) despite this I never had an issue with it, always pressurised quickly, didnt leak.

Another thing that is very perplexing is that when you place the lid on it scrapes like a maddafakka, its not that its hard to put on it just drops in like its the wrong size, you cant hear or feel the rubber ring inside when you tighten the lid all you hear is metal scraping. And when the lid is closed fully and alligned you can move the lid around a few mm on all sides

No handles, no problem, the lid has always been clozing tighly during those 4-6 years after I fixed the rubber seal, worked as advertized, only thing is I couldnt really open it until it had cooled down to room temp.

Anyone should automatically see this and think "yo dude, no wonder its not pressuring look at the two screw holes on each side of the lid, you can see straight into the PC. And its technically true, but the seal ring is always pressed against the holes and especially during pressure, (when it used to work that is)

So Im wondering... perhaps I need to fill the rubber ring a little on the inside so that its a bit more thicker? I cant wrap my head around why youd suddenly just be hearing metal scraping after it worked just fine for a number of years.

Im no metalurgy guy but I was under the impression that metals dont shrink or expand, they might do that on a microlevel of course when heated I know that, but a tight lid to suddenly be a half centimeter too small on all sides is something I dont understand. Never dropped it on the ground, never misused it, doesnt have scratches of bumps (just the spinning that I believe occurred one day when I suspect it had been on a hot stove after it had dried out a little but nothing dramatical)

So im looking for any kind of ideas tips from anyone that can shed some light on this mystery, ill gladly test out anyones reccomendation, like getting some tools/brushes and chemicals to be able to scrub each vent carefully to remove all the mineral build ups, I dont actually know how much this will effect the performance so anyone who is more savvy with this and knows the names of chemicals and clener stuff im all ears.

Im not cheap but I really want to restore it out of nostalgia and I want to solve the mysteri of its weird death and bring it back to life, that would mean something :bongload:

Not understanding the technicality of this inner part of the ring I feel reluctant to just fill it with silicone, it seems that the separation/lamelle's are there for a reason, but then again I strongly feel that it would stop scraping and be tighter if the rubber seal was thicker

Have you tried a new gasket?

Yes I,ve been switching the gaskets of the two identical Prestos I own back and forth for the last few years as I was trying to diagnose the sudden decline, switching lids back and forth between the vessles and what not. As of today one of the vessels seem to work almost as brand new regardless of which gasket I put in, and the other vessel barely makes boiling sounds.

I might actually try taking apart the handles of the good Presto and screwing them into the bad one to see if I notice a difference, but then again I have switching the entire lids and gaskets with no differet results. I guess ill just try plugging the holes where the handles used to sit and I could maybe place a thick, sturdy block of hardwood on the bottom and try hitting it a bit with a hammer gently. I have done that one time in the past but the spinning was exactly the same.

Also it spins only on the perfectly flat stove top, but not on the floor, its not that damaged I wouldnt be using it and trying to fix it if it was visibly bulging lol

Yeah it's not much, but it's there, doesn't explain why it isn't getting up to pressure though :strokebeard:

For the handle holes you could probably just get the same size screws as the handle and a nut and use high temperature silicone on each side.

I love Mike Patton, a musical genius.

Saw him at the Quart Festival in 2003 with Tomahawk and again in 2005 with fantomas.

Metals absolutely expand and contract. Coefficient of linear thermal expansion is different for different metals. Fun fact - the SR-71 spy plane has gaps in the panels on the ground that seal at speed due to the friction and heat.
