Emerging from the shadows to remind everyone that instant pots aren't suitable for grains and are generally inferior products for obvious reasons.

Have a nice day :goodday:

It's 22.5x22.5 with an h14 filter which is purportedly Iso 5 class 100.

I use anti-fog meant for diving goggles to keep the lids clear. Keeps me from opening. Pictured, only a drop was applied to the center strip.

Jaws spit anit-fog

Not all strictly tools of the trade, but they were closing down a lab at work and I grabbed some free goodies. They originally sent photos with two large culture hoods which I planned to ravage for the fans but were already claimed by the time I got there

Vortex, serological pipette (also snagged some 10mls), and extra jar lids already coming in handy.

might as well post this here, in the thread where it actually belongs :bongload:

Just a very simple Magnetic Stirrer

The spinning thing in the jar Is a shelf support pin

The motor that makes the pin spin is a PC fan with magnets on top

Magnets arent glued to the fans, these Neodymium magnets latch on like a mf,
just experiment with different ways to place the magnets on the FAN so you get optimal cooperation with the FAN and the pin inside the jar

I found that this setup works best, two neodym's stacked on top of eachother, placed on their side

I've slowed down my cultivation pace quite a bit this summer. Naturally, that leaves me with a bunch of plates that are fully colonized, starting to pin, and otherwise going bananas, all dressed up and nowhere to go.

So I took this lazy, boring Sunday afternoon and put it to good use preparing various sized cryovals for long-term storage. The big ones are 100 cc's and the little ones are 20, I believe.

What will you be storing in those, agar wedges? And that's just sterile water? I thought agar slants in vials was the only option for long term storage of cultures.
Im learning something new here :takingnotes:

Here's the post that I took my inspiration from:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27778467#27778467

I have several vials like the one picture here:

These are doing great for the last 6 months, showing no signs of contamination. This vile has an agar wedge in it and you can see the mycelium grew until it exhausted the nutrients and now it's in stasis.

I plan on putting smaller pieces of mycelium into this next set of vials and also adding more redundancy.

I have not worked with slants yet. The OCD in me is afraid of them because all I can think about is that eventually the mycelium will grow to the point where it needs to be transferred again. Not that I want to stop forever, but I like the idea of stasis pure and simple. There are several examples of users reviving mycelium from cryovals with distilled water after up to a couple of years I believe.

I welcome any thoughts or criticism or advice here....

Look into cryovials and dried grains I really like both

Just revived my oldest(18 months) culture in cryovials.

Sterile grains is another one I have to look into. I'm kicking myself because as recently a 6 weeks ago I had about 15 grain jars with various cultures in them and I didn't bother to hold some back for long-term storage. Now I'm stuck with plates going into cryovols until the next time I do a spawn run but I don't think that's going to be until the fall.

I walked by this set of tweezers last week as I was looking for the shelf pins for the magnetic stirrer, I didnt have a specific idea in mind when I saw them but my instincts told me this could be useful for future mushroom related stuff

Now after learning about cryo-vials and grain for long term storage it makes perfect sense, so I suppose these are my latest tools of the trade :laugh2:

Tell me about it, I made lids for drying out grains, still haven't pulled my head out my ass and dried a single grain :muppet:

I have received some dried grains though, and they bounce back clean and ready to go T0 so I have been wanting to get it done. I have a lot of 5ml cryovials, I bet dried grains would be perfect in those
