Re: Psilocybin-producing mushrooms which are endophytes or otherwise symbiotic with plants [Re: CreonAntigone] * 2

When they cleaned the leaves after the surface sanitation (not sterilization as they claim) they say they rinsed with sterile distilled water. How did they do that. With gloved hands? Did they use sterile gloves and sterile techniques. Or were the gloves washed with sanitizer. Did this work happen in laminar sterile flow or was someone's beard hovering above the washing of the leaves and the agar plating. A claim they found a macroscopic fungi inside of the leave of cannabis. I would say their methods in assuring no inadvertently introduced microorganisms would be the most paramount part of making that compelling.

And as you said no control either.

Alder sapling spawned with Wavy Cap mycelium here. I put fermented wood chips in the compost mix and surrounded the root ball with spawn as I potted it up. I'm going to give it a few months and see if anything grows out of samples from the lowest branches on agar.

I've been reading that living plants are a major ecological setting for HGT between fungi, including gene clusters, which could turn out to be an avenue worth exploring if other psilocybin producing species that gained the cluster from HGT are found to be endophytes too.
