or even cheaper, find milkys "public display of affection" tek.  milkboy, sorry.  i forget he has a full name.

basically some generic potatoe flake water and agar.  the twist is he uses a french press to get them clear asf.

ive used his plates and they were beautiful.

but ya, some lme aint real pricey either considering a bag is a lifetime supply.

I've never used potato flakes. And needing to use a french press sounds like extra to me. :lol:

My plates come out with golden/yellow tint from the malt. Almost like adding food dye for contrast but without adding anything extra. Amazing.

I'm not sure what's more coveted on this site... plates that are clear as glass or colored or goth as fuck :lol:

Is there a trick to getting the agar to not stick to the glass? I’ve shaken it like somebody owed me money and it’s just glued on there.

Once it's stuck you will struggle.

Try this next time;

How to roll jars to distribute agar wedges.

Yup, gonna be a bitch to get em unstuck. Lay the jar on it's side so the grain is laying on the agar. Once myc is jumped off onto some grain, shake it up

Oh for sure, I'm just using this premade because it was part of a bundle I got with the petris.  Once it's gone, I'll start making my own. Thanks!

I've seen that tek, looks super clean! I'm not sure if the clarity would matter much on holy grail plates.  I'd be willing to give it a try if I had a french press

i do love a ropey plate but my best culture is tomentose af

Point taken, rating given.

This MiB is 5 times faster than any of my other cultures.  It's even gone into emergency mode on the plastic (where I've excised contam) and formed a primordial!

Obviously the two wedges are the same phenotype as they've joined rather than fighting.  And obviously it's on grain now.  This is 1% MEA, almost jelly-like but still transferrable.

There is contamination at 06:30 but I've transferred the healthy.  Hoping for the best.

This is contamination and needs to be thrown away. The entire plate. It's not good and it's not what you want.

It's growth characteristics are that of what we would call contamination.

But you do you, boss

The bacteria?

FYI,  never transfer directly to grain if you have bacteria let alone mold.

That's what agar is for, transfer until it's clean and uniform.

I've been posting this for your reference;

Clean spores and clones

This one needs further transfers because it's definitely harboring some nasties that don't seem apparent at first glance if you're expecting a visible mold or bacteria.

Ask doc about his drying rack, it will remove the mold and produce pure myc.

Who's the doc? And why do you only find fault Mr. Piggy?

The above plate was like T5, as I've been battling contamination in my SAB.

And well looking at the rest of my MiB plates it is a horror show.  My original print was so light I used it all for germination, and have only those at the various T-levels.

Now I have only one plate left.  I had one wedge that looked like normal myc at 11:00 and immediately transferred four slices to a new plate, just as the mold's icy fingers were reaching for it.

Maybe there's a chance to salvage around the wedge at 03:00?
