Scemi and Roscoe:
Yeah, I kind of don't really see the point of compartmentalising.
Which is why I'm asking, in case anyone have some hidden secret uses for those 😂

psychedelicmind:
No problem, I hope it works for you, as it's done for me and others ☺️

Agree with Nektar on the Serbica.
The mycelium looks astonishing!

Best looking specimen from my first ever set of agar plates!

I've had a lot of fluffy tomentose mycelium rather than some of the rhizo ropes I see on here - but zero contamination to this point so no complaints at all!

So this is on your way to the first grow?  Nice! Good start.

What's this variety?

Your first plate looks much better than mine, 5 years ago this summer.

My first ever plate, July 2020. Has mold AND bacteria! (and some shroom mycleium)

This is my second round of growing, after whetting the appetite with a surprisingly successful run at growing Orissa using Reddit's favourite Uncle Ben's tek

This is AM1219, also got some Jack Frost on grain after many hours binging a Youtube channel!

Taking what I've learnt about clean techniques, SABs, substrate and surface conditions - and now hopefully applying the proper principles (agar, transfers, clones, PCing grain etc)

Must say I've been very fortunate so far with the lack of contam but not taking any chances with that - if someone on a video tutorial sprays something twice with iso then I give it 4 or 5!

I'm assuming that contam plate of yours got thrown out, but theoretically is there salvageable mycelium there if you transfer to a clean plate? Or would it just be a full write-off?

Edit to add: Just looking again and that is a truly impressive array of contaminations there hahaha

The green is mold. The orange is bacteria. There was no food coloring in that agar, the agar was uncolored, the bacteria colored it orange.

I threw it out without opening it. If someone handed me that today, I'd move my FlowHood outside, mask up, glove up, and open it to test my transfer game by seeing how many transfers I'd have to do to get clean shroom mycelium from the middle without mold or bacteria.

I think 2, maybe 3.

Not yet this is new for me started in November from wedge and finally on the aspen,  I'll experiment as I can and post on it.

I took transfers of this plate x5 and this aztecorum plate went nuts and filled voids with rhizo fuzz and formed really fuzzy mean surface

The first transfers of this plate were very different looking more tomentose more thin

But now they grew out over all agar and got cool rhizo tips poking up at plates edges

My plates have been acting very strange lately. I thought it was from bad water at first, but I made these with bottled water and brown rice syrup. Still getting weird growth. Any ideas?

Thin, slow, and erratic growth. Some cultures won’t grow at all, they just sit on the plate and do nothing.

I saw this old post with an agar recipe. But it also mentioned pH, and how germination needs a more specific range than general myc propagation.

Is that still a thing? Did y'all already debunk it? Just throwing out a random thought.

4 Maketi plates scalloping. 3 different cultures...

I need an adult on this one. Go back to germ plates or try to transfer away? I've never dealt with scalloping, but what I've read about it makes it sound like a lost cause?

Cabin sequestering is supposed to fix scalloping 👍

Check out the writeup on that. I think the official tek calls for glass slip, but people have been doing it with just agar and it’s been working.

I just ran a second scalloping culture through a CS and it fixed it in one run through.  Agar roof on both
