Honestly? My initial assessment of experiencing the org as a noob didn't go well.  Sorry but what the fuck? I'll be writing about this in the HHG3.

Hacker in me started looking if there has been ideas of wikifying the knowledge contained here a bit.  I mean with general topics like agar, transferring, grains, teks, etc. kind of to ensure a more open source knowledge and possibly keeping everything more up to date as the time goes by.

Thet of course could rob some personality from the general nature of “X’s tek of this”, but not necessarily. Nothing would really stop from documenting these to with author’s permission, but would enable to annotate these with up to date information.

I did find one attempt of this from the history, but it seems that it fizzled out. - https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27870825

There's a certain charm to that.
Letting it be and proving newbies with a "How to filter info on shroomery" TEK is probably the solution most fitting with shroomery's general vibe.

Noob here!

This thread showed up at the perfect time as I have some AIO bags that I'm not sure about. I made the classic mistake and ordered bags before finding this place, and have since learned a lot and made my first grain jars a couple of weeks ago. Hoping to at least get something out of the bags in the meantime.

Here are some bags I'm working with as they currently sit:

Inoculated 11/19 - Mixed up 12/23

I was planning on leaving them alone and just keeping an eye on surface conditions - I just cut an opening in the top corners and left them alone.

I'm leaning towards moving them into rescue mode and following this guide.

it's kind of hard to tell from these pictures but it doesn't look like your surface is really all that bad.  Of course I still think moving them into a humidity chamber is a much better option than trying to fruit them in a bag.

Before you punish this thing why don't you try to take some really good close-up pictures of that surface and we can help you make a call

What an awesome write up, now will the newbs read it???

Newb here.
If my experience is what other newbies experience, they won't read it. At least the younger ones or those not used to traditional forums won't.

I initially went here: https://www.shroomery.org/11323/Getting-Started and followed the links.
Then I joined the forum, and through days of reading threads discovered that the getting started page is outdated.
I think the pf tek doc linked there has not been updated with the 2023 pf tek update.
The hitchhikers guide is not there at all.
I found a thread from 2023 listing outdated teks, here
The getting started page has links to articles and threads that are considered to be outdated in that "official bone-yard of debunked teks" thread.

Fortunately I'm an old fuck so reading through a forum to learn a community/hobby's slang and abbreviations to be able to search properly is second nature for me.
However the kids that grew up on socials and a-socials(reddit) have no idea how a traditional forum works. They won't find it.
I've had programming interns that didn't know what a file extension was. They'll never be able to work an old school forum's search engine. Let alone filter out whats old and un-used from whats new and best-practice.

my tek is in that list IIRC

BLESSED BY BEEF

Captains Log Day 58
Todays efforts were gifted to me from knowledge passed on through BEEF SUPREME & COMEBACKKID

Brief rundown
I inoculated my very 1st AIO 11/28/24
Allowed 30 days in dark cupboard
Break n Shake
Then allowed 2 additional weeks
“Perhaps I should have waited longer”
Definitely should have waited much much much longer to open and begin Fruiting stage 1/10/25
It’s now been
TWENTY DAYS

It’s been cold real real real cold
Probably close to 45-50 Degrees Fahrenheit and my apartment has no working heat source
I utilize a small space heater pretty much 24/7 and it’s still quite cold
So I’ve opted into using a Grow Box/Clean Environment for the fruiting stage
My apartment is quite dusty as I have improperly sealed windows and doors
Plus I’m a clean freak and want absolutely nothing to do with contams of any sort
None
I run a 12/12 cycle from 5pm to 5am with light source inside the box
I’ve also added a heating mat with thermostat
I run it at around 80 degrees to counter the cold and help create a humid environment for the AIO
I have the AIO off of the surface and hear upon a ceramic dish
It had never once touched the heat directly.

At this time I’ve not seen pinning and the conditions are seemingly off
I’ve attempted and followed many pieces of advice from different sources and books etc
I began getting some Pins and Primordia approx 2 days ago

Here’s where we are Now…
I’ve taken the time to rescue this AIO and have decided to listen and learn and trust good info and sources

I’ve now created a Grow Bin
I’m using a 25Qt Plastic Bin
I’ve heated a screwdriver and poked 3 holes in the side of the length and 2 holes on the side of width
Totaling 10 holes
And have taped them
Internally I placed 2 trash bags in which I also taped internally
I’ve prepared my Coir by boiling the water and then adding to Coir Brick inside of a 2 Gallon Bucket with Lid
I then allowed the Coir to Cool to room temperature
Once coir cooled I placed it into the Bin
At this point I used a razor blade to cut away the AIO Bag from the block of substrate and mycelium
I then “This sounds insane” used a cheese grater and agitated the entire block of mycelium growth
Now I place the entire block into the Coir I’ve prepared using methods learned from
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/28501530#28501530
And also
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29106914
As well as
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053

I’ve now placed this new environment into the Clean Environment Box with Blue Light running on 12 hour cycle and will just allow it to work it’s Magic and I shall diligently watch over it with Love and Music and what I pray is Perfect conditions from this point on.

Please take a looksey at the attached pictures
It’s been a Journey of Wonderous Awe
Looking forward to eating my own grow and learning more and more along the yellow brick road

Cheers
-Olli B

Always let it ride. You never know what might happen. A pretty good general rule for ANY horticulture project in mid-swing. Regardless of how fucked up its origin story is.

Ok, so this method-act-a-newb thing, combined with discussion of how long it's been since some of these teks were published, has got me thinking.

There's this guy that turns up in my feed of YouTube shorts that makes historic recipes, and shows off the end product and then eats it on camera. A similar one is some military historian guy who does that, but also shows some gear the solider of that time period would be using, etc.

So what about some novelty grows? Get s paper copy of PF's original instruction guide that he mailed out, get some PF spores of the most legit provenance you can find, and follow the instructions to a T.

Then Fast-forward a decade, and do it again.

You could also USTFSF to limit results to a specific era.

I had a thought while trying to look at this through my old newbie eyes; you don’t want your reader to have to step away from this post to do research. They might not find it again. Explain what FAE means and what fully colonized means.  As well as any other of those concepts that we take for granted having done this for a minute.

I started out not knowing what fully colonized meant, I just knew the instructions said not to open it until everything inside was all white. I was probably lurking in these forums for a month before I learned what FAE was.

If I’d had this post, I would have understood about surface conditions, instead of misting every few hours like the instructions said and being just smart enough to wonder how I was supposed to get mushrooms to grow out of something the consistency of a damp block of cement.

Was mentioned to use 5600K range for light
I happened to have started with blue light so had the bulb
Another source had me using red light initially and my bag was going nowhere for many reasons beyond the lighting.

Figured I’d use Blue for now although White Light was mentioned

Time shall tell
We’re looking very very solid as of Now

They're selling bulbs now? Out of curiosity, how much does one of these kits cost a guy?  Honestly I use the cheapest possible LED lightbulb from home depot. The white color not the yellow color.

Hey hey that was my 9000th post. Now I don't wanna post anything!

$197.95 and that was the black Friday sale. Another vendor whose name I won't mention, wanted twice that.

Let me know if you want to see the list of stuff that came with it.
