Yes this is a humidity chamber, Beef style- Per .5 and 6 above. I got rid of all the perlite and rolled it in coir and then laid it on the bed of coir that is prepped to what I hope is the right field capacity. Now we wait! LIFTA, I done been told. 😉

So the bed of coir is for humidity? Thats dope. If someone told you to do that, absolutely do it. Ol Thurman has a few beers in him and can't be bothered to read. Never seen that before, but perhaps need to shut me yap. 🤣🤣🤣

Hey Beef, nice writeup! You've practiced this talk long enough for sure.

Maybe add a little glossary of ineffective instructions that come with kits / reddit / fb? No SGFC, no fanning, no misting, no heat mat? As these are the standard ingredients of most 'Help!! Aio trouble!' posts?

Or like a list of 'counterproductive growing tools'. Otherwise there will be a lot of questions about these before ppl actually finish reading the HHG.

welllll hes trying to make a coir chamber. I think the cakes look good but I told him this in a PM but, for posterity. Pack the coir in the coir chamber.  it will dry out to fast loose like that. I used to use a PS3 game case just smash it down real hard.  I use a tile float now.

I think there should be a note about the value of collecting spores at the end of the process. If someone buys a grow bag and it fails, there is no way they're gonna be convinced to buy another source of genetics, especially with how difficult people perceive agar. There is definitely some sort of Sunk-Cost feeling noobs will have about throwing out their grow bags, so we need to show them they can still recover. Once they chuck it, they're out of the game forever.

All they need is one shitty fruit to restart the process in Accordance With the Scripture correct teks.

Reading the HHG hopefully gets that idea across but yes, I think I agree.

Okie doke yall I got up early and made the suggested edits before work.

-Addressed unhelpful info/resources
-added a little blurb about the concept of surface conditioning. (Good call Lil Gangster!)
-Added a little blurb about recovering genetics.

Keep the suggestions coming yall and thank you. This place is everybody's and as such, I do work for all of you.

Great info!

I’m wondering about the cakes on top of the coir…won’t they just spread mycelium all over the coir? We don’t need to place cakes on something so there is no direct contact?

Not trying to question your method, I’m genuinely curious

one can only hope that happens haha.  when i did this very rescue i actually kindof embedded it into the coir and it did colonize in there a bit.

so no, i wouldnt put a barrier.

Interesting! In my imagination I thought the small cakes would try to colonize the entire thing haha.

And yea!  good to be back, missed everyone

Pack the coir around individual cakes or find a container that would keep the cakes closer together.

What an awesome write up, now will the newbs read it???

Newb here.
If my experience is what other newbies experience, they won't read it. At least the younger ones or those not used to traditional forums won't.

I initially went here: https://www.shroomery.org/11323/Getting-Started and followed the links.
Then I joined the forum, and through days of reading threads discovered that the getting started page is outdated.
I think the pf tek doc linked there has not been updated with the 2023 pf tek update.
The hitchhikers guide is not there at all.
I found a thread from 2023 listing outdated teks, here
The getting started page has links to articles and threads that are considered to be outdated in that "official bone-yard of debunked teks" thread.

Fortunately I'm an old fuck so reading through a forum to learn a community/hobby's slang and abbreviations to be able to search properly is second nature for me.
However the kids that grew up on socials and a-socials(reddit) have no idea how a traditional forum works. They won't find it.
I've had programming interns that didn't know what a file extension was. They'll never be able to work an old school forum's search engine. Let alone filter out whats old and un-used from whats new and best-practice.

The shroomery is both cutting edge information and a museum, with unclear distinction between the two.

It's like a library that doesn't differentiate between fiction and non and it's up to you to figure that out and which book is fiction.
