Well guys, my experiment adding 1-1-1 fertilzer to coir ended up triching out in a hurry.  Look so promising, then green everywhere.  I may try hydrating coir with liquid nutrients, sterilizing it and doing a grain to spawn transfer or lc to spawn in a bag, letting it colonize then transferring to a tub. But my gordotek run has given me enough ttbvi for probably a lifetime and unless it really is superior to cubes and nats, I don't really need to fiddle with it anymore anytime soon.

I'll certainly post up if I stumble upon something.

Highly likely to be in your spawn if it's quick to green IMO.

Congratulations on the TTBVI! Enjoy.

Are Panaeolus superior to Cubes and Nats?

Absolutely but it depends on the person and your mood, to each their own etc.

Definitely a higher work load, but once you get into the swing of things it's not bad.

For me cyans have less introspection and more visual fun compared to cubes

Well said, Dkeppel :heart::heart:
No species is superior to other in my own experience. If that was the case, I would be growing semperviva or ochernats exclusively. Pans are wonderful but they're not for everyone and the same can be said about other species as well. I love RustyWhyte as much as i love ochernats and so on. Peace River has a gentle personality yet TTBVI hit me like strong LSD with a twist of medical grade meth. Not for the faint of heart.

ps,
If there was an absolute psychedelic i were to choose as top of the pyramid, that would be good ol' Mescaline but we're in the mothership so...:mushroom2::mushroom2:

So these are my first Pan Cyan (Weeza)I've ever tried. Is this normal looking mycelium? I was under the impression that it was all fluff and no rizo.

I'm guessing two of these have friends in the agar with them. Not the good kind. Is this what I should expect to see? (Not the contams, but this sort of look on my plates.)

Fast and whispy is what you want.

Weza mycelium is a little unusual, I think plate 2 at approximately the 3 to 4 o' clock region (11 o' clock as well possibly) but I can't see these plates properly!

Back light it and take a good look for the most organised fast and whispy stuff and take another transfer, 1 and 3 look a little sketchy to me?

I believe in you! I think these were from me?

Happy to see you here cultivating them regardless

Looks all quite chaotic. You could also try to lower nutrients in you agar. Make some 0.5% LME agar and see how it grows out. I bet t will be easier to work with.

So, let me see if I’ve absorbed this thread correctly..

In comparison to cubes, you need :

Substrate thats
-highly nutritious, not just grain
-thinner
-moister
-cased at full colonization (?)

Higher temps/humidity

Regular misting

More patience and perfect spawn.

Sound right?

Don't quite know what I did wrong with my proportions (probably different brand of coir actually) but guess who has 23 PF Cakes of Oat/BRF Flour with Liquid Nutrient hydrated coir and a casing of pure coir?

It's me.

Gonna noc them up today with LI from an agar plate.

Wish my luck! Pretty sure the agar is clean, so I am interested in finding out if having sterilized the coir with nutrients and keeping it in a sealed environment makes it stronger in the war against trich

Highly nutritious isn't right.  We're often using less spawn ratio (1:4-1:6 or even less).  They need nitrogen, though.  And that can either be added to your spawn jars or to your substrate.

Also, I run my substrate at the same moisture level as everything else.  Maybe even on the dry side.  The casing supplies moisture for fruiting.

Finally, more patience and perfect spawn.  You want clean spawn with every mushroom.  Pans often run poorly on grain for me, so I use AIO jars.  As far as patience, Pan Cyans are quick.  Much quicker than cubes.  Pan Bisporus is slower than most cubes.  And each species is going to have its own nuances as far as nutrition and fruiting conditions.  As different as Zaps and Cubes.

It’s nice when a plan comes together

So for second flush, do I just mist the casing down heavy and wait a few hours and pour it off?

That will definitely work.  You can also side water and/or mist heavily, and let it absorb over the next day or so.
