I'd advise everyone seeing big things on tv (from 'before the Weichselien') to compare it to the work of actual archaeologists / historicians, with C14s and other analytical methods. Just sayin. Believe what you want to believe, I don't have a stake in this.

I am grateful for this thread. The conversation is organic and nobody is berating or talking shit to those that’s they do not agree with. Everyone is actually learning from one another! Occasionally I venture over to the political discussion thread or the pub. The one guarantee there is someone will be a dick no matter what you say.

Well, I mean there were the cultures that crossed the Bering land bridge, and/or used small boats to island-hop...

I have these two mammoth volumes that I believe I got for free, likely out of print now. They literally just cover every early European voyage to the Americas in the age of discovery. But, like, primarily from a very geeked-out nautical perspective. And recounting every single record that anyone on the ship took, day by day.

The part that covers the first journeys to what is now Quebec and the Maritime Provinces is completely mental. It was basically just Breton fishermen venturing further and further west, catching cod and then posting up somewhere on shore to salt and dry their catch, then heading back once weather permitted. The crazy part is that their accounts mainly just cover navigational stuff, and mapping out the shoreline. Their descriptions of encounters with Native Americans basically consist of them rolling up and going "Oh, hey, what's up, catching some fish?" and the Bretons going "Yeah." And the Amerindians going "Cool. Have a good one." Of course they had no common spoken language, but this is the gist of their interactions as recorded by the sailors. Not wonder at encountering a totally different group of people or anything like that.

It might sound dumb, but this more than anything else has me convinced that there was prehistoric movement across the Atlantic. And that there were enough cultural commonalities for two groups to be reunited at the end of the middle ages and just kinda go "oh, hey."

The market opening up thing is actually a bit rough. See, they'll track down your address, and then grab you in the middle of the night and take you to a room with a gun, a sword, and...nevermind, I've said too much...

I've often wondered how far back some of the wild varieties of magic mushrooms can be traced. We see Psilocybe semilanceata in Europe and North America. While human or animal distribution is certainly likely, I wonder if it was around when those continents were merged together, like with Pangea. I like the idea of a massive herbavore tripping balls after grazing a magic field.

Interesting question... This article states that based on genome evidence, psychoactive mushrooms emerged at least 65 million years ago.

Guys a totally not shady Mycology store named "Back Alley Trench coat" has a time machine for sale. I want to take this hobby very seriously and I saw a YouTube where someone traveled back in time to harvest mushrooms directly from Brontosaurus scat. I followed all directions but ended up passing out from hyperoxia. How do I make my setup work? Don't bother recommending agar to me, as I said I'm very serious and don't want to waste my time on that noob process. Can you help me make my time machine work?

I confess, I come to this thread for off topic discussion with mush cult fam and don't mind if folks aren't making confessions.

Politics and the Pub are great, at distracting folks I don't want to talk too and keeping them far far away from cult.
