i think i would teach my kids to be safe, and to think befor acting..
there really is no way to protect them agnist having a bad experence. i would only hope i have tought them enough to know there limit..

I don't have any children, but when I do, I hope to follow my mom's example by smoking weed with them.

There was a good tv show recently on Nova I believe about this. It was showing Mexican tribes on a pilgrimage to find peyote. Once a year they take it together, men, women, and children, as a sacrament. They educate their kids on what to expect and do it in a way that imprints a positive experience.

I was struck by the contrast between their society and ours in attitudes towards usage of drugs. Here we make such things illegal, spread misinformation (along with mystery) and wonder why our kids go behind our backs and hurt themselves through misuse and abuse of drugs.

I trust my skills as a parent and tripper. I have good quality knowledge.
And as a matter of fact I really hope both my kids use weed, pot and shrooms when they grow up. Because I want them to have a good and full experience of life.

I would even do the stuff with them to guide and have some fun with them.
I really hope me and my son can later in life light up the waterpipe and smoke some quality pot and talk about life.  :heart:

Well I usually have it all in my house.. So it is possible..
But I think it would be a bit much for a first time experience..  :grin:

BUT!!!! I don't want them to start smoking sigarets, or over do alcohol.

I would never encourage anyone to use marijuana by smoking it. While I think that it is relatively harmless if ingested orally, smoking it is just as devastating as using tobacco. I have also known too many people that used weed as an excuse to not do anything but stay stoned. My wife worked as a social worker for 2 years and had several cases where people opted to give up parental rights rather than pass 2 consecutive piss tests to get the state off of their backs. So I have mixed feelings about marijuana. I would also recommend that if anyone did use marijuana that they grow it themselves instead of using their dollars to support drug dealers. This encourages the exploitation and destruction of other people. This is my caveat against recommending marijuana to my children. I would also not recommend LSD because of its black market associations. Shrooms, Peyote, and San Pedro can be produced in one's home in a low key manner, and will present much less of a legal risk. I would also encourage them to use entheogenics in the manner of a sacrament instead of as party drugs. This encourages respect for the power of the plant.

But it tastes so horrible, and the last time I took some orally I almost died.
So I'm not really keen myself on the oral thing. But for the kids it would be they're choice. I would warn them because at least with smoking you have more control. I get my stuff for free, or buy it from a shop. And the entire situation is differend here as is the culture. But I get where your coming from. I find it sad that you had such an experience which gave you this view on the given subject.

Because it's not the dealers, it's the drug laws IMPO. I would tell them my personal experience with entheogens, and inform them about the sacrament form and playtime form. Then let them find they're own pleasure and choice from both two. I wouldn't tell them to do the sacrament version, because they never used it and should be free of choice when they first try it.

Because sharing knowledge is fine with me, but you can over do it to the point of suppression. I guess telling personal experiences would be suffician enough as well. Would be the same thing as reading up on the subject.

It is common knowledge (just google it) that marijuana smoke contains equivilant amount of tars and carcinogens as tobbaco when smoked. Any time you breath in the products of combustion you harm your lungs. Without tars and carcinogens considered you are still taking in high levels of carbon monoxide and phosgene which are the common products of any combustion. If it is an occasional thing such as once or twice a month that is not an issue, but most marijuana users smoke it much more regularly than this. I know several people that use it daily 2 - 3 times a day. It is possible to use vaporizer pipes that eliminate these negetive effects, but they are not in very common use. It is also worth noting that the majority of marijuana smokers smoke cigarettes (but not all) which compound the problem. Here is a quote from an anti (cigarette) smoking web site about marijuana:

"How does marijuana affect the lungs? Scientists believe that marijuana can be especially harmful to the lungs because users often inhale the unfiltered smoke deeply and hold it in their lungs as long as possible. Therefore, the smoke is in contact with lung tissues for long periods of time, which irritates the lungs and damages the way they work. Marijuana smoke contains some of the same ingredients in tobacco smoke that can cause emphysema and cancer. In addition, many marijuana users also smoke cigarettes; the combined effects of smoking these two substances creates an increased health risk."

These are facts. As I said there is a possible way to minimize this risk, but it is very inconveniant. Do your research in the future. I will note that in my youth I used marijuana frequently, but quit in my mid-20s.

If the laws were different here (USA) I might feel different about it. The culture surrounding it would then get an overhaul.

ive read the studies about the carcinogens and harm to the lungs, and i might even believe them.

But using that same search engine you can find equally true statistics stating that tabacco is killing about a billion times more people. Even 3 times a day smokers dont die from marijuana caused cancer, at least not in any study ive read, so obviously theres some other factor at work.

quite possibly it's that tabacco companies add hideous poisions like benzene, cyanide and formaldehyde to their tabacco, thus it is not actually the tabacco but the additives that are killing?

again, i dont really know, but i do know that even if weed does contain as many carcinogens or whatever, for some reason its killing many many thousands less people. A big part is also that tabacco is legal and sold on cornerstores, and advertised in papers, and most importantly it's physically addictive, so even when people start getting sick they keep smoking.

All in all though, tabacco is WAY more dangerous, no doubt. The lack of physical addiction alone makes that obvious.

Tobacco is only more dangerous to the lungs because its use is more wide spread and frequent. While marijuana has no physical addiction I have known people so psychologically addicted that they couldn't get up in the morning without getting stoned. Anyway the effects on the lungs are not my main beef with marijuana, but it is with the popular culture that surrounds it.

what are the characteristics of it that bother you?

just wondering cuz when i think about it i mostly come up with positive things, so either we have different values, or the culture is different where you live, or something...
