What are your thoughts on this? is it going to happen? i know that the states have already made a deal with the prime minister of canada stating that canada will not accept draft dodgers from america.
What else could that mean?

Six months ago, I'd have said it won't happen.
Now, with all the noise about Iran and the theory that the WMD's may have went to Syria.... I'm not so sure.
I think it would be a mistake, but mistakes are what the Feds do best.

I'll be 47 in a couple weeks and have a bad leg so I doubt I'd be drafted.
If I was younger though, what I'd do would depend on what the draft was for.

Invertigo, they can put you back in if you are young enough.
As for me, they wont take an epileptic, so im fine.
I hope the draft comes back, force some people to become of some actual use in society.

Me too, though I think they should use the damaged stock rather then the healthy stock to fight... I mean, why not send away the people with back problems, or flat feet, or epilepsy, or mental problems first... they have got less to lose when they die compared to the rest of us which are healthy... not if you've served your 8 year obligation no matter how young you are...i've served mine, plus i'm 33 so i'm in the clear.
There will not be another draft (hopefully) and the president who inacts it will not serve another tern nor finish the one their in.

Here, so they can be stationed there.
Cheaper for them that way.

Unless, of course, you can hide it with a lot of patriotic hand waving... kinda like they did with the patriot act...
Lets not call it the draft anymore... that sounds kinda negative... lets call it the Patriotic Lottery! Yeah... nice ring to it...

you can get a certain amount of compliance by employing social influence...
but when it comes down to it, when mommas are forced to send their babies off to war...
the shit will hit the fan.

I don't know about that, but if you're going to initiate it that would be the only way.

Even so, I still think you guys are correct... political suicide. The draft is a lot like the war on drugs... an example of the government forcing the people into something that the people don't like or want. If the people care about the cause, the people will fight for it... using WWII as an example. If the people are against the cause, they will resist fighting for it...
