The war aint over yet. The first few years of this war has caused more american casualties than the first few years of the vietnam war, and we all know how that one ended up.

the vietnam conflict was a slow escalation in american goals and commitments. the iraq war is quite different.

*grins* One part of it is to sign up - the other part is to check if your signed up.

You cannot sign up for the SS online.

If you go through the motions of that website, in the end, you have to print out the SS form and send it in and do it by hand.

Oh, that's so cute! But you won't. Bush signed a border treaty with Canada that blocks you from going there to escape being drafted. "

I wonder if this is really true. It seems unlikely, but you never know. Why would Bush, who adamantly said there would be no draft, sign this? If there would not be a draft, than why would it be necessary to sign a border treaty with Canada to stop someone from escaping a draft. Doesn't make sense to me.

Weird huh?

Yeah, I was. I got threating letters in the mail when I was 18 because I lagged on registering.

I turned 25 last month - when I go to check if I am registered it doesn't show my birthdate to be valid for SS.

Actually, Bush and the Defense Department has quietly begun to refill the draft boards - the first time this has been done since 1973. This does not mean conscription is underway; it simply means the option is on the table.

and besides, the US already has a draft; it's called the Reserves.

source?

the current board was set up in 1979. board volunteers serve 20 year terms. do the math.

you better check your facts. the reserves are voluntary. conscription is not.

Canada isn't really that bad.

You can get a job at the Leather Ranch and sell leather pants to dudes named "Sven"

well now. if everyone would just lift one finger, we could change our nation. what could anyone possibly do, if everyone drafted decided unaminously not to partake in the military? just like, what the hell would happen if everyone decided not to pay taxes, all at the same time?? remember, the people have the power, are the power, and in fact, is, the goverment. as long as we remain scared and fearful, we will be deceived.

Yes, I think everyone drafted should refuse to serve. If you all decide to stop paying taxes there will be no police so I personally will make you my slave. I hope you have a nice behind because I intend to use it. A lot.

and you see, we don't need the police. a man can look after himself, and when weirdos like you attempt use my ass, i will strike you down with a sword, and spit on your lifeless corpse. police are nothing but part of the control system... it's like saying that a tiger could use a hand in helping with it's adversaries. aren't we all not men, capable of our own self-defense? i am sure some would have it otherwise, yet a goverments nightmare is when the people realize that they can look after themselves.

No, you are not capable of your own self defense. I am old and dangerous. You will be my toy. If you're lucky, I will not tire of you quickly.

Chicago Tribune and I believe the NY Times - some time last year. Also, google "Bush draft boards"
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2003/11/03/draft/index_np.html

Correct. 1979, not 1973 as I thought. Board members serve 20 years, and they are being refilled. As I pointed out, all we can conclude from this info is that conscription is on the table - not necessarily going to happen. It's simply on the table.

geez man - I was being facetious. Have you not heard of the Reserves being refered to as a "backdoor draft"? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/28/sunday/main620263.shtml
