I don?t know. This one just blew me away. I mean, it?s somewhat like Nixon not knowing the name of the hotel that his men were arrested in.

Meh.

Jimmy Carter regularly pronounced "nuclear" as "nuke-ya lur", and he served in nuclear submarines before getting into politics. I always got a chuckle out of hearing that turniphead mangle the word in his speeches.

Is that possible? Could Clinton be VP? Or is it possible, but no former President would ever lower himself to that level?

Clinton's already had two terms. Carter's still got one term as president coming.

I know, but can a President be Vice President after their two terms as President? Might be a stupid question, but I don't know.

From a Google search.....

Amendment XXII
Source: Cornell Law

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. So I guess Clinton couldn't become Vice President because if Kerry kicks the bucket Clinton would have to be President again.

Yes - Clinton could be nominated (and subseqently elected) Vice President, and could even Constitutionally serve as President again if he were VP and something happened to Kerry.

Some guys at the law dept at the University of Minnesota did some research and came up with 8 different scenarios that could theoretically put Clinton in the Oval Office again - some of them were a bit far fetched, as you can imagine. But it could happen.

I'll try to find a link later - heading off to meet the guy who's going to get Arlen Specter out of office!

Damn.. I can't find the study. I've not read it, only heard of it's existance secondhand.

I did find a link to a CNN article from 2000 explaining why the 12th amendment did not necessarily supercede the 22nd amendment, which would then allow Clinton to become VP (and President, should something befall the elected president) but would preclude him only from being elected president:

http://www.cnn.com/2000/LAW/08/columns/fl.dorf.goreclinton.08.01/

I'll keep searching for the study, tho.

Explain how it's scandalous. I'd like to see a source on this. When I think of scandals I think of Clinton and Lewinsky and Reagan going to Bitburg.

What do you guys think the nation's all time biggest scandal is? I vote for Clinton and Lewinsky.

Yeah, the only difference is Carter's administration didn't push for an unjust (opinion) war in which a large scandal errupted involving "nuke-ya lur" weapons......
