Even assuming the article is correct....
SO WHAT?
There's nothing wrong with a president assuring the nations oil supply.

If theres nothing wrong about it why does he have to lie about his real reasons for going there? I thought the idea of a president lying sent you into a screaming fit. Or is that only if he happens to come from a certain political party and have a penchant for sax and cigars?

How is it a lie?
If you tell someone you're going to London to make a donation to whatever, and while you're there you do another task as well, that makes you a liar?
That's a rather bizarre leap.

That's more than just silly.
Should he make seperate trips? One to secure oil futures and another to cement ties and yet another to cover the health portion of his trip?
I can just imagine the bitching you'd do then.
Do you do you shopping 1 item per trip?
Your blind hatred of Bush is seriously clouding your thought processes.

Just because he's giving one reason for going to Africa, when in fact he wants to go for another reason doesn't mean he's "lying". Bush doesn't lie.

Ah... another Bush hater heard from
So since I got no answer from Gazz, I'll ask you.... Should he make a separate trip for each reason he wants to go anyplace?
Sad that someone who uses a nick based on a man of vision, can be so closed minded.
You do Leary a great disservice.

Actually, it is too much to ask.
There may be military and or other reasons for the trip that shouldn't be released.
Besides, there is no clear proof in the article that Bush is going there for oil. It's mere speculation.
Is it possible? Of course. Is it wrong if true? Not at all. Is Bush required to let Gazz or any other person on the planet know every reason he travels? Don't make me laugh any harder than you normally do.

Wrong yet again. Do you never stop?
The only acceptable use of a nuke would be as a last resort or if not using one would cost far more lives than using one would.
Quote:

Fuck an intern? Sure.
Lie about it? Depends on to whom he lies. To his wife? No problem. That's between them. To a grand jury ala Clinton? Nope. Hang him if he does.

Love is, yes.
However, I do not love Bush and as I'm sure anyone with the reading ability of a grade schooler can tell you after reading my posts..... He wasn't a great choice for President, just the better of the choices available at the time. (and currently as well)

I said I believe you hate Bush.
So while you are full of something, it's not hate.
Please read what I write a little more closely and try not to exaggerate so much.

Great system, too bad it'll never happen.
And quite frankly it isn't irrelevant as it colors your posts as regards Bush and US policy.

When do you sleep, LDS?
OK, so what? So it's just yet *another* example of how the administration are scrambling to leave an energy legacy that is less than disasterous, rather than cluing the public in on the game. You remember thart article I posted quoting Simmons, from Cheney's energy task force? These guys are scared - they can see the writing on the wall re: oil. Instead of actually doing anything constructive to get us off oil, the issue has been obfuscated - we now just want to get off Mid East oil, like that's going to solve shit.
Are you aware of the coming Natural Gas crisis? By next summer the utilities are predicting rolling blackouts. Oil is probably less than a decade behind.

When the day comes we run out of oil (and I've seen estimates ranging from 20 years to 200 years) you don't think those wealthy oil barons will have moved their money into whatever power source comes next? They're smart enough to control oil, but too stupid to move on?

Yup. The "crisis" will last as long as it takes to get the prices up and / or more pipelines built. I believe you'll find the "gas" crisis to be more of a distribution crisis.

The sky is falling! Build more nuke plants like several other nations have done.

I doubt it. It will just get more expensive.

Bob Geldof astonished the aid community yesterday by using a return visit to Ethiopia to praise the Bush administration as one of Africa's best friends in its fight against hunger and Aids. The musician-turned activist said Washington was providing major assistance, in contrast to the European Union's "pathetic and appalling" response to the continent's humanitarian crises. "You'll think I'm off my trolley when I say this, but the Bush administration is the most radical - in a positive sense - in its approach to Africa since Kennedy," Geldof told the Guardian. The neo-conservatives and religious rightwingers who surrounded President George Bush were proving unexpectedly receptive to appeals for help, he said. "You can get the weirdest politicians on your side." Former president Bill Clinton had not helped Africa much, despite his high-profile visits and apparent empathy with the downtrodden, the organiser of Live Aid, claimed. "Clinton was a good guy, but he did fuck all."

Exactly. Thermodepolymerization, for example. It, or something like it, will replace drilling for oil. Since this requires ungodly amounts of capital, it will mostly the current energy companies that get in on the ground floor. They don't care what kind of energy they sell you, and when an alternative is more cost effective for them they will jump on it. It's simple self preservation.

Exactly. In the words of Luvdemshrooms, shit by any other name is still shit.
He may not have lied about going there for oil,but he never mentioned it,and as far as I'm concerned, that's just as bad as lying.
I'm sure Bush and his goons are sooo concerned about the energy crisis, seeing that he doesn't seem to give a shit about alternative energy sources, and no,he has absolutely no past ties with the oil industry or anything like that he could profit from.

You're forgetting the possibility that the word oil may never even come up on his trip. That article is the authors speculation about a possible purpose for the trip. Or do you have other information that confirms the authors belief?

Are you unaware that the expression (hang him) is a commonly used one not to be taken as a literal desire? Or are you being deliberately obtuse?

You're right,I shouldn't have automatically assumed the article was correct (which I didn't by the way, even if my responses may have indicated otherwise).
However, assuming the article is correct for our theoretical discussion, you were still defending Bush's lying. I was just defending my position that you were wrong and was just trying to point out that Bush does indeed have personal vested interest for lying.

I did take that into consideration, but with you I wasn't sure.It wouldn't surprise me if you did though.

I can't agree.
If you tell your significant other you are going to the store for milk, even though you also want other goodies... that makes you a liar? I don't think so.
And there are reasons for a trip that a President would be foolish to mention.

That is far worse than the analogy you critized me for.
So,if you tell wifey you're going to the store for milk and you stop by a whorehouse and bang five hookers it's OK because you never lied to your wife?
The president should be completely truthfull with the public and tell them everything, unless it's a bonafide matter of national security. Bush isn't like that at all, that's why he's a lying sack of shit.

Are the hookers working in the store? No? Then it's not the same as saying you're going for milk and also coming home with cookies.
Your example would be as if Bush said he was going to Africa to hand out money for Aids, but on the way stopped in the Caribbean to dip his wick.

Nonsense. Do you tell your significant other or your employer everything you're going to do? EVERYTHING?

Both... your opinion.

OMG, that shouldn't even warrant a response. No, I don't want to hear about Bush when he picks his ass,but this is quite different. My job flipping hamburgers (btw, this isn't my real occupation) is a little less important than global politics. And yes,if I lied enough about important matters and the boss caught on,I would be fired. I just don't think that's going to happen to Bush, unfortunately. Quote:

You are quite the master of observation. At least I could back my opinion up. Your opinion is that it's perfectly fine for a president to mislead the voting public in a democracy.

Clinton lied to Grand Jury about his come on JAP's black miniskirt.... Bush's possible lies justifying preemptive attacks that have gotten around 150 US citizens killed is far more a serious crime. If no WMDs are found soon, I will be calling for his head and all his cronies who work him like a puppet. I want to see Bush under the hot lights of a Grand Jury investigation. You think asking for the definitiopn of the word "is" is funny, just wait and see the stragery of these strikes explained by W. Fudd.
I guess you would consider the latest Gulf War multi-tasking as well, huh? Save the poor defensless Iraqi's from themselves and secure some oil reserves for America at the same time, at only the low low price of around $100 billion. For us the taxpayers of course.

Well hell, I guess since it's YOU calling for his head, that'll be enough to overcome the difference between lying under oath and just allegedly lying.
