I've been cleaning house today, culling the petri horde and I'm wondering what to do with a bunch of germination plates and some mediocre T1's.

I'm thinking of putting most of the germination plates in the fridge and leave some out alongside the T1s to see if I get any plins.

What do you guys do with your old germ plates and so-so T1s?

Again YEEEEEEP gather up all your colonized plates and toss the good looking ones onto grain to make room for your newer cultures.
EDIT:
Good news everyone! I have figured out why my plates have been looking tepid and weak.
1: Bad LME, it was over five years old. Purchased new shit.
2: Grain Water had a low nute mixture before the addition of yeast to the agar. I might as well just use yeast without the grain water at that point.
3: Agar that I liked the best was 15g LME to 500ml water(I used distilled, tap, and then filtered water all came out just fine)
I will be posting pics here soon once the culture gain size enough to show what I'm talking about.
Overall I do enjoy Activated Charcoal because of the color it gives but do not see a need for its use.

Yeah, same. Eh I got some decent looking plates, might do another run of agar and lc, then quiet down for a while and stick whatever's good in the fridge for the next grain batch.

I'll eventually cook up some grain and just dump all my weird plates in pint jars or something, see if any monsters pop up. Might be fun.

At least I got my shit a bit organized.

Per every 500ml of water how much agar agar powder/LME are people scaling out? I was just using lme but now I want to use the two together.

After reading many posts and articles, I've found a range for them.

    LME  7-15 grams
  Agar.  7.5-10 grams

The less agar, the "wetter" or softer your plates will be. I've read this is desirable when germinating spores, particularly old ones

2% each so 10g each for 500ml.

I just throw them away. I got too many plates going that I can't keep track of shit. By the time I make the transfers I don't remember what stack they came from.

A good problem to have though.

Will possibly need to tweek the agar total for different brands of agar for desired consistency.

Currently I'm using telephone brand agar and 9 grams per 500ml gives me fairly stiff plates. Might drop to 8 grams on the next batch and see how that sets up.

Of course; 2% is the baseline.  Telephone is bulletproof at 2%.

Yeah I don't even have that many and I already lost track of who's who and who's whose. I can only track down that rhizo on the bottom left of the pic, since it's the only rhizo that popped up after dozens of transfers from different prints. I found the spot on the germ plate that produced it. Looked the same as all the rest so just complete luck. Might be a hangar queen since I haven't fruited it yet but at least it looks pretty.

Let's get a barcode printer/scanner and do data entry after each lab session.

Just wanna share my method for tracking transfers. Alternating letters and numbers. Each germ plates gets a letter, for multiple swabs ill write letters of plates on the swab wrapper.
On transfer each new plate gets donor plates letter, then number for which wedge it was from parent: ie taking 2 wedges from each of 2 plates, you get A1, A2, B1, B2.
Next transfer swap back to letter and use donor plates full lettering/numbering.

I dont need it alot, but it does help when I think a swab might be very contaminated or very clean, or finding the plate before a bad transfer so I don't use hidden or enmeshed contam plates.
