No worries, I went through a few torches until I ended up on one I like. I know what you mean about not wanting to grab shit from the shop and doing some ghetto engineering with what I have at hand...really bad habit which I can't kick. Spend 5 mins getting the right tool from the shop? No. Spend 15mins trying to use random shit I have in the immediate vicinity? Yes.

More like an hour looking in the shop.  I am moving so everything's packed up to move back into our house in 2 weeks when renters are out.  Staying at families until my house is freed up.  Just wanted to hurry and get some spores to agar to get the ball rolling.

Pro tip: if get a dab torch(brulee torch) get one with at least two jets. The big plumber torches are where it's at though.

Wait, I have seen those double jet torches but I dismissed them as a gimmick. What's the advantage? I have a single jet culinary torch.

I also have a plumber torch with the cartridges. It's pretty good but a bit overkill. Flame is not as regulated as I'd like to be.

By the way, since we are talking about torches, do you leave them on continuously for single handed sterilization or ignite them for each pass?

Is this orange-ish color something to be concerned about or is it carrying some of the transfer color outward? Transfer was from lme agar no food coloring.

Likely just eating the coloring.  Look at it from the other side.

Do you fine people send your germ plates to grain much? If so, got any photos of your clean germ plates to share?

And is that ok? I used one of the brands that are listed in D3s agar tek. I guess it has corn syrup in it.

Yes, I leave it on the whole time.

Two jets twice as much heat twice as much area. I've used both a single jet culinary and a two jet dab torch, I much prefer the two jet.

OK yeah I kinda get it. Alright I guess I'll grab one next time I'm shopping for junk on Amazon.

I really really wish my plumber's torch was better regulated at low power. It doesn't do a perfect combustion until you really open up the valve, but then you have this massive jet roaring, it's a bit ridiculous.

Soooo... here are the 3 plates that I transfered 2 days ago and it looks like they are starting to take..  but I also attempted to see what would happen by cutting a small piece of stem from a freshly picked cube and throw it on some agar to watch... is the fuzzy upward reaching growth normal?

Did you add a filter or something? I'd wanna say the growth looks normal but the thing is clearly green. And not even greenish but just full on green.

I didn't add anything.. the only thing I thought may have happened was blue from trauma to the stem?
