Tried to get a good shot through the plate lid. I put it against a white door to hopefully make the spots easier to see. Sometimes the spots are easier to see when looking through a camera lens than with the naked eye.

This is a T3 by the way.

That is strange discoloration.  Is it in the AGAR, between the agar and mycelium or in the mycelium?

As far as plates go.. the ones I get come in a case of 500.. so it depends how many you're trying to get.. a full case is definitely the most cost efficient way to go.. the cases I get are like $105 after shipping

Those boxes of 500 are absolutely worth the price. The cost per plate is so low. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I don't have much to compare them to, but I've only broken 1 plate on accident... like a complete tard I dropped a grain jar on the most beautiful FP+ plate pin plate :uhoh:

Edit: might wanna ask Nektar61.. she uses them, and I'm sure she has more experience with other plates to compare them to

Only takes a couple transfers usually.

You wouldn't believe the shit I see when I culture wild tissue. Hyper swarm motility....

Yeah.. I didn't have my hood on yet, so I grabbed some grafting tape and sealed it up really quickly.. waited 2 weeks to see how it looked.. had some areas that looked a but suspect, so I did 1 transfer and sent it to grain.

On the plus side.. it was a full grain jar and it dropped about 15 inches.. the plate cracked, but it wasn't "that bad".. it didn't smash or anything, just 1 thin crack.. so they're pretty durable from what I can tell..

When I got some pre poured plates, I broke one by squeezing too hard... they're definitely more durable than those plates were :lol:

Good good. I just don't like cracking them by handling them. Some are flimsy AF.

Yeah. I know what you mean.. I haven't had any issues, but I'm usually pretty careful and deliberate when doing agar work... SmellyHobbit has huge hands, and lifts weights, so if he hasn't broken any with his hulk grip, they're probably good :super:

Come to think of it.. I've dropped a plate on my wood floors, more than once, and never cracked a plate in the process 🙃

They’re definitely not so flimsy that a firm grip and a tight film wrap are going to hurt them.

Bioprospecting. I culture a lot of organisms.

At any given time I have 1-2k plates wrapped and in use. Having a buffer for washing and pouring and wiggle room would be ideal.
