Plates need little air. The air that's in them when you seal them is enough... however, FAE does seem to be a trigger for plate pins.. Ive been opening older plates in front of a flow hood for a few minutes and sealing them back up :lol:


Ha! I can dig it. I get pins without doing anything special but my plates are wrapped in that glad wrap stuff.



Same.. it just seems to trigger more pinning quicker... not for sure tho.. just noticed if a plate is grown out and I do that it starts knotting up quick

You could use cheese cloth.. but I've never really felt the need

You should make a yeast broth before hand and strain it prior to adding agar.
It comes out much clearer.

Not stacked like some of you fine people, but I am making a few no pours tonight. The blues are germ plates in case the nat swab I did Sunday night doesn't take, but it looks promising already.

I had a hippie friend who kept it in her purse and used it on everything. Anywhere people would use salt, plus everywhere else. Even on yogurt.

I've been having great luck using potatoe flakes for food in agar plates. Bought a bag of it cheap when I started 2 years ago. I've done a couple thousand plates and still have some.

Do you have a link to those dishes? I am thinking about swapping away from disposables. I can't with good conscience use single use plastics. I burned through 60 within weeks & would like to move towards something I can use for awhile.
