A PF tek grow can be done with MSS or LC. You’re just looking at faster colonization times with LC. I’ve done plenty of shoeboxes with shredded cakes from MSS, and they’re fine. I can recommend 👍

This is a first time grow and I'm not set up for agar yet so that is why I chose to start with PFTEK. All the reading I've done seems like that is the preferred way to start and go from there. Seems LC might be a better way but nor sure. The vendor only has one of the varieties, hope that is the correct terminology, I want so one will def be MSS.

It all depends on how clean the MSS/LC is...

I got lucky with a semi-clean syringe/MSS but still had a little bacterial but it flushed ok as did I go straight to 50qt tub and I missed the joy of PFTEK so I can't comment on PFTEK, but some do a 6 qt tub and you could get a spawnbag, put agar into it then into the 6qt tub but it's all up to your desires and current information...

Have fun...

Cool, Thanks.

Quick question.  I have a cake pinning and a number of shrooms are coming out of the bottom.  Is there any reason why I couldn’t flip it over so they are on the top?

The LC should be clean (no guarantees though). Whereas the cleanliness of the MSS is a crapshoot.

The LC is from Myco, hope it is OK to name a sponsor here, and they supposedly guarantee the quality but yeah I get the whole clean thing. That being said, is it worth chancing using a few cc's of the LC to do a grain bag and use the rest for the PF jars or just go for a little surer thing with the whole syringe in the PF jars?

With PF, you don’t need the cleanest spores in the world. That’s the point. The PF tek is made to use MSS.

Yep, that is what I'm learning. I'd rather do a mono tub but with only spores I opted for PF instead. I was hoping with the LC I may get lucky with a grain bag. Future grows will be with agar to grain.

I was having trouble getting anything to grow on my agar, which meant no cleaning up my cultures. On almost just cakes I grew a couple hundred grams over two months. Syringe to jar. It’s not as efficient or effective, but it’s all I had and it works great if it’s all you have.

Hello, new member here! Please help! I bought a 2.5 lb all-in-one grow bag from "Fresh Cultivators" on etsy and a liquid culture of spores from "Sporeworks.com". So initially i thought I might have made a mistake and injected too far into the bag as I didn't see any growth. I injected 5cc's 60 days ago with no visible mycelium growth @ 77 degrees in a dark in a cardboard box in a non AC room. I also injected an additional 5cc's into the grain like normal 35 days ago without any visible growth in the bag at all. There is not any visible contamination either. Any ideas as to why I am not seeing any growth at all? I thought using a liquid culture and all in one grow bag would be the most fool proof way to getting started growing. Im open to any ideas or thoughts!

Liquid culture is live mycelium, a spore syringe is not liquid culture. Spore syringes are a crap shoot along with grow kits, best advice would be to start off reading the sticky threads.

If you still have a spore syringe growing via pf tek would be easiest probablybest option.

Shit I misread that. Sounds like dead spore or any long list of other issues that can arise with purchased materials.

For sure fire results it goes: Spores>>Agar>>>Spawn>>>>Substrate.

Spore syringes were designed for the PF tek. That's really all they are dependably useful for. Fortunately PF tek can be very forgiving, can be accomplished with household items if need be, and works quite well when dialed in.

Good luck and just keep learning and trying.

Hey bud go with the spore syringe.  The pf Tek is perfectly suited for multispore spore syringes.  syringes aren't all clean pf Tek is useful for controlling contamination and not needing a PC.  Plus the syringes are easier to store for long periods without worrying about nutrients being used up.

Ha you beat me

Pre mades are risky, spore to grain is risky, large amounts of spore is risky. Take your kits out of that box; colonizing in the dark is an old misconception and just slows things down. Light is good at all stages.

From here I would just let those kits sit until you see change for better or worse, spores can be stubborn about germinating straight on grains and if there's no contams there's no risk letting them sit. Start working on the next round with some pf-tek jars you make yourself(directions linked in sig). With future syringes keep in mind the less spore juice you use, the less likely you pass on a contam. You only need a drop to inoculate anything you'll work with, no need to shoot 5cc's at a time into anything.

You'll get it dude just keep on it.

I removed as much as possible and spread the best looking myc throughout a hardwood chip bed.
After lots of rain it started producing decent looking fruits.
Are they safe to consume?
