That really helps. Good info! Thanks

One more question! Its not agar, but I'm shopping Flowhood filters right now to purchase. Is there a good brand to stick with, or all of them pretty legit?

Edit:

Looking at this one right now...

Clean Storm NCHP12246H910 HEPA Filter 24in X 12in x 6in 99.97 pct. Particle Board Box high Capacity [NCHP12246H910]  Price:  $121.81

They seem to range from $120 to $350. Thats a big price difference for the same product.

I get mine from the guy who made my flowhood. The front one is H14 99.999%, goes to .3 micron. The back filter is much cheaper, G4, but just filters big stuff so the front filter lasts longer. I pay 30 bucks for those.

I pay 150 for new front filters. But they might not fit your hood. They're 2x2 feet.

Genes play more of a role in growth than variety.

I've never grown PE but I've heard it's slower than other cubensis and takes on a different look, but cube myc generally looks like cube myc, whether tomentose or rhizo. Other species look different, like pan myc almost never looks like cube myc, tamp myc is whispy and takes on a brown tinge as it ages. Reishi myc is really thin and then plaques up as it ages and then starts to turn funky colors

Okay, Thank you!

Do y'all use different agar recipes for the different strains you are going to grow? Once again, mainly referring to PE, GT, B+, Burma....

What are the pros and cons of adding increased nutrients? ie... for last pour I uesed 10g MLE/8-9g agar. What would happen If I used 14-15g MLE/8-9g agar?

For how much water? I usually do 7-8g of both lme and agar per 500ml for pretty much everything I do. There doesn’t seem to be any mycelium out there that doesn’t like that mixture, and that includes mold.

Hi, i have a question. My plates seeem to have weird morphology, scalloping, uneven. All kinds of weird shit, never any tell signs of contam like green sporulation, slime, etc. I believe it's either viral, or some mold intertwined with the mycelium. Or a similar situation with bacteria.

How would one go about cleaning such plates ? Are pf pucks good for this ?

Also, the only spores i can get are my own. But if the fruits potantially have the virus/bacteria/mold, would it even make sense to use those spores ? Isn't it going to be the same thing all over again?

I've had trouble growing for about a year now and i am thinking that tossing EVERYTHING and just starting off from an outsorced print is the only thing i can do.

haha. yes.

Laurabelle, more nutes might not be the key, there's an argument for less nutes. One thing I've heard some people say on here is that lower amounts of nutes in agar can make mycelium grow faster, but I haven't done it.

I think the theory is that if ropes find nutes, the hang out and enjoy them, if they don't get enough, they keep moving to try to find them.

But I've only heard it haven't tried it.

Need clear photos to help.

Mycelium with contam can be cleaned up by transfering tiny clean bits to new agar, sometimes more than once. Do you have an SAB and a PC?

First of all damn that sucks. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

You have any good pics of the cultures in question?

If it is some kind of horrible unknown mycoviral/bacterial/mycoparasite situation going down it could get into your prints and such. That's how a lot of those things work.

An easy start would be to just go ahead and order some fresh spores from maybe a couple places and see if that gets you any relief. That could show if you have something running all up in yo ass at home and then obviously gotta ditch all your stuff.

If even that goes tits up then the situation could be environmental. One thing a lot of people don't know about is sometimes big money farms get run down with contams and literally have to close/move as a last resort.

If the right kind of stuff finds a foothold in your pristine environment full of nearly sterile delicious goodies it wants to fill that niche. There are a lot of persistent contams out there.

And the way indoor psychedelics have matured and grown in popularity I think we see a lot more of that kind of stuff out here in the OMC like they do in commercial farming.

I will say this though it may have nothing to do with anything for you. Keep your outside area free of brush and wood and old damp leaves and shit like that. That stuff is a breeding ground for all kinds of bad stuff. Keep the area around your setup as clean as possible even the outdoors. All that air in your room has to come from somewhere.

I'm sure a lot of us here would help you get prints. Is it a tough spot to send ya stuff?

Glad to hear that sandman, I hit a patch where I had to paint and really deep clean the lab. Figured with big time operations you could hit irreversible damage.

Could mean it's potent?

Bluing during growth isn't unknown. Self-bruising. Self-abuse shrooms. haha.

Grab that plin and toss it in another plate. Easiest way to clone. I push it into the agar a little with a flame-sterilized scalpel back of blade.

EDIT: yes, might be abort, now that I look at image big.

still, take the fattest non-abort plin and clone it.

Because it’s aborting and dying. You can’t expect it to thrive growing on a petri alone.

PHOTOSHOP!!!! Haha just kidding Q...we have a little fun.

Man that's some sweet photos. The layout so you can see the progression of plates.... mmmmwaaa.

The middle rack are leftover T1s, and one germ plate that is still going strong.  I'm going to try a low-tek grow with them just as an experiment... make some LC and just dump on a big totally unsterilized random pile of wild woodchips.  I have a spare spot ion the yard set aside for that.  The grain jars will be transferred to pasteurized sawdust and high quality woodchips, then spawned to a carefully prepared bed.

The bottom rack of plates all have some amount of bacterial contam, from dripping condensation water it appears.  They were transferred at the same time as the top rack, it's amazing how event he tiniest bit of contam on the far side of a plate will really inhibit the growth of the myc.

I'll only be taking the best looking / most symmetric dozen plates from the top rack.  All look to be clean, but a few have not as great growth patterns.  I'd rather chuck a plate that might be OK than ruin a jar... speaking of which, just waiting a few hours for them to cool down so I can knock them up.  Think I'll start some new PE plates while I am all sterilized, I have 5 blank plates left over from this fun.

I heard it's because 70 can get inside cells and at 99 they shut it out. Again, Martha Stewart helping shroomers:
"higher concentrations of alcohol are less effective at killing bacteria. Certain bugs, such as bacteria, are better eliminated with the use of a less concentrated isopropanol, because higher concentrations cause an external injury that forms a protective wall and shields these organisms," explains Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich MD"

https://www.marthastewart.com/7796118/isopropyl-alcohol-percent-disinfectant-coronavirus-covid-19

Either way, yes, 70 > 99 ISO for us.

Any ISO got hard to get at the height of COVID, but it's becoming available again.

Dymo 160. I like it a lot.

Got it at Salvation Army, but you can get them anywhere. I go through a lot of the tape for it, Mine came with a bunch, I haven't had to buy more yet. I recommend keeping the tape not in a warm grow room, it will not last as long. keep the tape at room temp.

I like this model because it's QWERTY. I used to have one where the keyboard (thumb board) was alphabetical, drove me crazy.

I can read cubes better than reishi. if this player was changed i work tis it cause of the pink line in the streak.

that said, it is reishi. i don't feel great about it. three other six LCs look great; i'll post the test plates soon.

anybody know if this is good or i toss the LC?
