I can't get it to dissolve either.

The yeast seems to float to the bottom of the media bottle after a PC cycle/while cooling down.

I have been rotating the bottle to redistribute the yeast while the agar cools.

Rotating the bottle seems to create air bubbles which stay on petri dishes after the agar has been poured.

Next run I'm going to leave the bottle to cool, without rotating it, to let the yeast sink to the bottom. Then I'll pour the agar and leave the yeast at the bottom of the bottle.

In theory, some yeast should still be in the poured dishes.

2.5g potato flakes
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp karo

i was thinking of dropping the karo on the next round of plates for lower nutes to try and clean up some strange looking plates

Seems complicated. I like to keep it simple and just use LME and nutritional yeast.

i mean its a run of the mill PDA recipe that i got from pastywhytes tek years ago. its always worked for me. i think he only specified a drop of karo though

i dont have any other ingredients for anything other than PDA agar at the moment as its all ive ever used.

just wondering if there would be enough nutes from just the potato flakes and not add the karo this time?

I don't like the yeast my best plates recenty are

400 mLl H₂O
8 g agar
7 g LME

I did some transfers on Friday and had new growth in the morning. I was one happy camper.
And with the FFU I see no fucking contams finally.
