Were they found in mulch and if so what part of Washington. I'm across the bridge from Portland and I'm new to hunting so any information is greatly appreciated.

I had no luck last year hoping I find some this time around. Wasted a good lot of hours in Seattle last year, my usual spots were bunk.

Yup spots always bunk out, always gotta be on the prowl for new ones! The beauty of it for me is the journey however I have never gone a season without finding them but its probably because i spend way too much spare time hunting

Lol it’s hard to stop I’ll sometimes plan to do a 30min check and then 10hrs later I find myself still wondering and thinking they’ll show up any minute

Are these kind of early finds normal or a sign of a good year? Asking for a friend...

They are signs of neither.  Consistent temps of 50s and 40s along with good steady rainfall is what's needed to have a good season.  While we're supposed to have a cooler wet fall, there's no real good way to predict weather long term.  Personally I hope we have a banger year to make up for the past few.

Yeah the only thing that these finds mean with the weather how its been is they are likely in a microclimate where moisture and lower temps have an easier time sticking around, as evidenced by the moss in jousts photo. But the season should be comin soon! Ill have to check on my patch where i found cyans deep in the tall grass, hiding the chip beds. i found some fatties pretty early there last season, one had a cap as big as my palm just hiding at the base of the grass

Yes, the ones i saw are from a very wet, out of full sun area, even in the heat waves we had.. god theyre so small compared to others ive seen here. Fortunate to have found them before the slugs.

If i had to pack something out to the area, is there any way to get them to be bigger?.. i guess its all conditions.. but ive never seen big ones from this spot.

@blackberry, ive noticed that some areas i find them in produce much bigger specimens. I've always assumed there is alot of factors in the size such as genetics, the amount and quality of substrate the mycelium is consuming and of course moisture levels and temperatures. I have had a patch years ago go from dime size caps to palm of hand size in 3 days, but cysns getting that big certainly dont seem to be the norm from my experience, more of a what the fuck moment when i see em. I always seem to find at least 1 giant one a year though x D i also tend to let the cyans i find grow for as long as possible

Thanks for the reply.. kinda what i figured. Seems like when people make their own beds there are several different types of species of wood and materials used. Maybe it would be worth it to gather lots of different woods and just kinda feed it at the end of each season.. dont want to throw wood on it that may already have fungus on it.

Or just let nature take its coarse and hope them dropping spores is enough to win the lottery someday.

I know alot of people have bigger fruits on the last flushes with other mushrooms on here, maybe ill have that luck towards the end of the season, but ive noticed smaller fruits towards the end, so whooooo knowssss what time will bring..
