The one and only P.s that I have found were ovoids this last week. I am going to be in that area for a gig anyway so I intend to drop by the patch - fingers crossed people, we did have rain yesterday so I will have my camera primed.
Here are some shots of my find for those whom haven't already had the pleasure.

Thanks man, I have only found them in three spots so far and only have the GPS location for one as I did not get a smart phone til the end of the season last year... Hopefully 2moro will be a good day, I know the weather will be nice, just hope the harvest can be just as nice... Will def update in this thread if I find anything...

Noiso- I too have only managed to find ovoids in the Ps. family  but living in ohio kinda limits your possibilities.. dunno if thats your situation but its mine... GL on your hunting!!

What temperature do ovoids require to fruit? ~70's?

People have posted pics of finding them as late as mid june so not sure what temp they completely die off at but Id guess given its a spring mushroom anything over 80 is detrimental to their existence

So I would really like to find some ovoideocystidiata this season but the problem is that I live in Oregon. I know that they have been found in the PNW but most of the guides and info that I find on the net only covers the north-eastern part of the united states. I have read from previous posts that they tend to grow in wood chips near flooded river banks, primarily growing near knotweed and other debris when the temperature gets in the high 60's. Does anyone who has found ovoid's on the west coast have any advice for me? Should I look near major rivers or would a smaller stream also host said mushroom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a map from the state of Oregon website showing where knotweed grows the most prevalently, do you think it would be a good idea to look near rivers where knotweed is most abundant? Does ovoideocystidiata have a mycorrhizal association Japanese knotweed?

No species of Psilocybe form mycorrhizal associations.

Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata from San Francisco, Noiso collection

http://mushroomobserver.org/91440

Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata from Oakland, DT collection

http://mushroomobserver.org/91439

Both collections had both type A and B cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia, confirming the ID of P. ovoideocystidiata.

Great photos! I feel like an effin' rockstar.

I went and took photos before my gig and afterward went back for a harvest. Due to the fact I was performing I couldn't get down and dirty on the ground like normal. The patch is healthy and full of new pins. The pins I left before grew up nicely.

I have a couple questions regarding potency/ingestion/storage. It is my understanding that fresh mushrooms, especially when high in psilocin, are more potent. Also, Paul Stamets has recommended against eating fresh mushrooms. If one cares to ingest them fresh is it best to store them in the refrigerator wrapped in wax paper or leave them out. Is it better to dry them for ingestion rather than leave them in the fridge for 1-3 days? Ovoids can be pretty potent I understand. Are they high in psilocin like cyans? Any suggestions and helpful facts would be appreciated.

And now, the worlds happiest snowman. . .

Hey thanks MushroomHaven! I just now noticed your well wishes, but they paid off as you can see in a previous post. I live in SF, CA. Funny thing - in San Francisco nobody calls it 'Frisco and in California nobody calls it Cali.

I think Cyanescens, Cyanofriscosa and Azurescens grow here too, but don't quote a newwwwwwwb. This is my first season.

Good luck to you too dude. And to the rest of you.
