Found these in NYC metro area on 12/10 in a small bed of chips that had been seeded with a few stem butts back in May. The area didn't receive any special treatment except for a spritz of water now and then.
Also found the stems of a few that had fully matured at least a week earlier based on the state of the caps or lack thereof. I'd guess the cold preserved the stems (robust ~4" x 1/4").
Lastly - I was in "wait until next year mode until I saw the ones below that are the progeny of some myc collected in June. They are in an unheated garage and recd no special treatment except water and prompted me to check on others.
I searched a few other outdoor spots in a cooler area to the north and found thriving myc but no fruit.
My guess is that it may be worth taking a look in points south especially in microclimates under bushes etc.
Happy hunting and happy holidays G

Even though it was only one spot I Thought east coast ovoids in December warranted a bump. G

Yeah, great find. I took a peek at your photos yesterday. In the metro area, too!

Thanks - Couldn't bear to watch them freeze so hopefully they've been moved to more comfortable digs.

Found a couple fruits today deep under a wad of dead grass. Temps around 60 daytime/40 at night with a lot of light drizzle. Sorry, no pics, I went in for a very quick look on the spur of the moment on the way back from the mall, and didnt have any of the normal equipment.

So would it be a good idea here in ohio to go hunting? There was a foot of snow on the ground a week ago but about 4 days ago it started melting. Temps started in the 40s then the next day they reached 50s. Yesterdays high was 55 and low was in the 40s. Todays high is 65 and low 50s. Humidoty for the past 4 days has been from 80-100% and my bees started leaving their hive, flowers and trees are budding... What im trying to ask is would oviods here maybe take this as spring time and fruit early. Or r my chances still very low?

I think ovoids will throw the occasional fruit through the winter. I found one right before Christmas. They are going to be one offs for the most part, I suppose unless there is a warm spell for a week or so. It has rained and been warm, temps predicted to approach 70 today and tomorrow. I am definitely going for a look.

I am in Ohio and experiencing similar weather conditions. I'm an optimistic guy, but I wouldn't waste my time even going to a patch where I know they fruit during the season. There are no Ovoids in Ohio right now.

That looks like MacMerdin's stream in DC. Actually, yours has more water. I see a box elder branch in the foreground.
Here's some habitat They love growing out from spaces between those rocks, and from that embankment loaded with dark organic debris.

This is the edge of a large sand bar covered in dead grass. By spring, that grass will be gone leaving a sandy loam. I like the way storms have swept the grass down to a point.

And when you pull that grass up, this is what is underneath a lot of it.

Excited for the new ovoid season, looks like you guys have some good spots! One day Ill get out there and hunt some, sounds like a great type of habitat to hunt in.

Looks exactly like the DMV area! My old stomping grounds. Good luck on your finds in that region...Only actives I ever saw were Pan Subb/Cinct.

I know this is 2013.
I am in central ohio, we hit a record high temp of 67 F today. I checked my ovoid bed that i started from transferring myc from a natural habitat to my prepared beds, and the myc looks exceptional! I believe this years fruiting will reap much goodness!

Yep. It seems like that ovoid myc keeps growing unless the ground is literally frozen solid.
