I keep swearing I’m gonna pick up a (working or not) metal detector just for blending in to places like that !!!

Forget a metal detector. What I do is take a garbage bag with me and pick up any garbage I find while hunting. I keep a rolled up brown paper bag in the garbage bag and keep the mushrooms in there. That way if a cop asks me what I'm doing, I can just say picking up garbage and if they find the mushroom bag I can say I picked it up and didn't know what was in it. Don't know if they'll buy that but I believe it's at least somewhat plausible lol. Doubt they'll want to search a bag filled with gross garbage anyways, and doubt they'll stop me if they only see me picking up garbage. It would also be a good cover for why I'm staring at the ground so intently. Even if I don't find any mushrooms, I'll still have picked up some garbage and done some good!

Similar story here but I have dogs. I put the brown paper bag into a plastic shit bag and tie that shit to my dog's leash. Bc what cop is gonna check a shit bag??

P.s. I also try to pick up trash when I see it  thanks for cleaning up the world SomeoneWhoIsMe 🌎 best of luck on your hunts

Been there. Two of my spots now sport homeless camps, I've already surprised a te\weaker under a bush. I take bags with and gloves to collect the syringes. I should get a sharps container for them. It has gotten gnarly out there. Yay meth, right? Ugh.

The sharps are everywhere and it is very dangerous when they are hidden by grass be careful not to get poked.

The first pic is a Stuntzii, the others were kinda weird. They had the blueing, olive colouring, and potency of Baeos; but, many of the more mature specimens had the classic waviness of cyans while others had the signature hanging curtain like shape of Baeos. Perhaps they are a local variant of sorts. I have in the past found Libs, Fibs, and Baeos all growing in this field at the same time.

Barely had a chance to go out yet and I'm already seeing a Frost Warning for the area  :undecided:  Any more experienced foragers have thoughts about it?

In my experience they keep going.  The fruits can get frost bite, but I’ve seen them bounce back from It.

Those look like baeos to me, except the ringers. Baeos sometimes get flat and wavy, might be a phenotype thing.

It takes several hard frosts in a short time to really stop fruiting. Early season frost is usually nothing to worry about plus it'll send bugs and slugs into dormancy.

I'm going next week. Not expecting to find much as I know it'll be a tad early, but I'll surely report back. My potted azure has fruited though, and this one I spray with a hose here and there so maybe more representative of conditions, being not irrigated like some of my other patches.

Blue Coast [Re: Joust]
    #27501681 -

Thanks to eradication efforts, a very sacred spot of mine in my favorite park was destroyed in the name of trashy landscaping. (it’s been destroyed since last year but I forgot my login details that season lol)
My curiosities have caused me over the years to migrate to search for the dune grasses the legends foretold. I may be a bit early still, but we’ll see if I find anything.
Good luck this year friends, always glad to see this annual thread
