Pin clones are taken all the time, the idea being that if they pin off agar alone, they should pin well in a tub. Not always the case, but...

If I have sections of myc growing more vigorously 3D than the rest (possibly bacterial), should I try to carefully transfer from that area without cutting into the agar underneath?

Not the best picture, but hopefully you can see what I mean.
I'm going to let it grow out another couple of days regardless...

Yeah I understand all that, was just asking if taking overly mature fruits from agar was a no-no or had draw backs. Only thing I can think is that the flesh might be a bit weak being more prone to contam? I'm going to transfer one of the ones that sporulated already and see what happens. I think it'd be cool if the spores germinated on one side of the plate and the stem ran myc on the other. I'd assume the spores wouldn't have time to germinate and the clone would colonize the plate first. I'll post my results!

Golden Halo T1 plate pins appear to be coming up lucy or albino. Really hope that's the case. I'm waiting for pins in two tubs from this culture right now.

How long are ya'll letting your clone plates grow out.

Just enough to see clean growth? Dime size, quarter size more?
Concerned about grabbing some dud genetics that may have been part of the fruit.

I let em grow out just enough to grab a transfer.
With a clone I am never sure if the tissue I have taken is completely clean.
Most times my clones plates get to go to grain, but other times I get heavy contams.

It took me about 5-7 xfers to clean up rw into something I felt good enough putting to grain.
It was still pretty tomentose.

Those plates yielded amazingly too. Rw is a pretty amazing cube.
