My first time actually pouring plates with no coloring. Pretty darn clear using my typical prep.

That looks awesome. My colorless plates definitely aren't that clear. What is your agar recipe?

This particular batch of plates was 12.5g. Brands of products and preparation methods are factors as well.

I poured my last sleeve of plates with a little coir in them today. I've read that having a little bit of the bulk substrate on the agar makes it easier for the mycelium to colonize the sub afterwards.

Time to buy more plates. I guess I'll buy 200 this time.
How much do you guys pay per plate? I pay 0.33 $ USD  including shipping when ordering domestically.

I bought one sleeve once and then just started buying cases... I know that's not practical for everyone but its definitely the cheaper route if youre going to be doing this hobby for a while...

Look for cases of 500...you should be able to find them for half that or less.

Nope my husband don't know anything until he walks in and says "something is new here". This hobby really needs a 20x20 of room. I mean I'm working in a 8x20 room and it is getting to the point I'm about to get a bigger room.

Mine is like 16x20.. if I where to get into edibles or wood lovers I might have to think about taking over the storage room as well 😂 I have a hose spigot, my biggest regret is not having a big slop sink... I need a big slop sink in the basement

Oh yeah, my utility sink gets plenty of use. It's a big fucker too, so there's no problems throwing 5 gallon buckets in there.

About cover slides guys. Do you think that more handy way to sterilize it is just to use flame? Like we do with scalpels and loops

I’ve never tried but I’d think wrapping in foil and baking in oven would be extremely effective. Maybe only do a couple at first just in case they break but don’t see why they would.

When I take prints I take a cookie sheet, place my precut foil for prints in the pan, set a cookie cooling rack over it, wrap my SS tools in foil place them on rack and cover good with foil. I bake everything in the oven to sterilize then once cooled off bring to my flowhood to perform my print work. I follow eats og print tek for the most part except I have a hood instead a SAB.

Can probably follow the same principle with the slides, good time to sterilize your scalpel and other metal tools while you’re at it.

I thought about it, but figured that the glass is so thin that it would melt or break. But I see no reason not to try it (but I would wear protection glasses to try it first). I have not tried it yet.

Baking would work fine like D3monic wrote, I would do that but my baking oven is broken. Thinking about getting one of these small hot air sterilizers that dentists use. They are on ebay for 50 bucks sometimes (they are just a mini baking oven). Would be nice for cover slides, normal slides (I use them for prints), metal tools etc..

What would also work I guess is a metal piece, like a piece of aluminum or stainless steel. You can't see through them, but then there is not much to see under it anyways.

So far I tried the cover slide tek on a few plates. Not all of them seem to come out totally clean. And I think normal transfers can do the same. But from what I can tell so far tell the tek cuts the way to a clean culture a couple transfers shorter.

Hey guys!
Is this agar ready to inoculate as it is or would you make one more transfer?

I poured 20 plates in the SAB yesterday.  Will they be fine unwrapped in the SAB until tomorrow?  I wanted them to cool before wrapping, then never got around to it.  I also can't figure out how you get them back in the sleeve without them opening up and cracking--the plastic sleeves are just too narrow.  Same with removing them--I have to open the sleeve outside the SAB then lift them out 5 at a time.  Anyone have any advice?
