PC'ed 18 mini rounds and 3 of them didn't solidify. Is it because I didn't mix it good enough? I used 10g agar, 10g LME, and 500 ml cold/warm water. I never boiled it. I just used a hand blender on highest speed setting for 3-4 minutes. After blending, I realized there was some powder settling on the bottom. Not sure if the powder was from the LME or agar. Was I supposed to boil and mix until there are no sediments on the bottom?

Agar dissolve/melts around 90°C
If you are doing pour agar, the PC process will dissolve, and the boil should mix it adequately. . .
If you are doing no-pour, best to bring your broth to boiling before pouring. . .

Even when I pour I still heat to a light boil and stick blend. Breaks all the sediment down and results in crystal clear plates

I got a bottle of this out of curiosity about a year ago. It was interesting but not something I’d drink often.

Now I’m curious how it would perform in agar.
Not curious enough to buy a case though. Maybe if I stumble across it again.

Sheeeeesh what a dumb mistake I made. A very few of my no pour has tiny amount of sediments. Oh well, still not a bad first run.

So Ive been tryin to get this Golden Halo to germ for a lil while now. I think this is the 3rd set of plates Ive tried. Usually just ends up a bacterial jelly streaked around. Its a pretty old print. This is the first growth Ive seen from it, and on a quick glance it looks like mycelium, but when you look closer it looks...odd.

Instead of reaching outward, it kinda shoots little strands off all directions, kind of feathers up in spots, just dont look "normal" to me.

Is it just some weird or sickly mushroom mycelium or is it some random contam?

Speaking of weird growth I just found this plate.

Where would you guys transfer from this pin??

It kinda all looks tempting. Maybe I should just carve it up like a pizza.

I’m definitely grabbing that fluff at 9 and then some of the rhizo.

So I've got another agar question for my mush fam.

You say less nutrients and thinner helps for rhizomorph growth.

Is softer or firmer better for that same growth?

Damn is that a germ plate at 10 days??

I’m doing Amazonian right now too and mines crazy fast also. I transferred a piece of rhizo and it grew up to 1/4 inch from the edge of the plate in 8 days. Probably the fastest culture I’ve had.

This bottom one here. This was four days.

Ok I'm working with some just add water powder PDA and I've pulled back
to a 25g per 1,000ml ratio but it has gotten a lot softer. An almost wetish
gel texture to it's surface. Seems to be working well and I'm getting more
rhizomorph growth than I was. But if firmer was better than softer I was
gonna put a little agar agar powder into the pda powder to firm it up.

Should I maybe try a 20g to 1,000ml ratio see if it still works but if
it's too wet and soft then add in the 5g part of the ratio with just agar agar? hmmm

Second transfer from a germ plate on the pe im wondering if that mycelium looks right, they were transferred 5/6. And a old maz plate second or third transfer from spores starting to knot up.

I had a PE culture that started super strong 360° but as it grew out one of the portions of it got super weak and whispy while the other sides continue to thrive. I wonder why :takingnotes:
