Anyone know what the craic is with the Curragh? Seen it mentioned here so often, but never tried hunting there. Might be too early yet, but wanted to get some input first as I’m coming from Limerick. Anyone with the inside scoop?

I wouldn’t trek all the way from Limerick to hunt in the curragh, wouldn’t even travel from Wicklow! Being such a well known spot it’s pot luck really if you find anything. No doubt there’s great hunting spots near you. Lots of rolling hills down your way. Good luck!

Lads how long does it take shrooms to grow again after you pick? I never seem to have any luck. I'm checking wet marshy fields where sheep are grazing, right next to a woods and finding nothing. Getting right down on my hands and knees too, checking spots where shrooms are known to grow. Am I just getting unlucky and checking spots that have just been picked?

EDIT: Went out again and found 1 mushroom. Is this a lib? Got a heap of blackberries though 😂

Your image isn't enlarging for me. I think that maybe what you have done wrong is you haven't copied and pasted the whole image address. Also, go into your pics and make sure your pics are set to 'share', then anyone can see the pics in your gallery and we can check them from there. A pic of the gills would be useful too.

So tried usual spot again, found this lot but it took about an hour or so so they’re not out in force yet. That was about 400m in the Comeraghs.

Found a few other ‘suspects’ but was unsure. Posted photos of them on my ID thread if anyone has a moment to have a quick look please and let me know what they think.

Still learning.....

Nice walk today, even though the ground is bone dry, they seem to brave through it.

Found at 100m above sea level. On Avg. 17 - 20 degree highs and 15 - 10 degree lows, although last night after about half an hour of light rain I watched it drop to 8 degrees. My Girlfriend and I made a plan to set out in the sun today and found a few beauties

Guys I know I'm all over this post with re-posts so I'm sorry haha but I'm very curious.. It crossed my mind on a walk/pick today, so to anyone that may have the knowledge, certain parts of the land I pick on produce different types of libs, there is one area that ONLY grows small ones (see pic below) that reach about 4-5cm in height, out of the four years of picking on the land it has always been that way, my question is what is causing that? Is it ground acidity? Heat? The small ones grow in a pretty flat open field. Thank you guys in advance

they seem to know how long to get to maximise spore distribution i reckon  i find the largest and longest (and sometimes weirdest) examples in long grass and reeds and smaller and generally more regularly formed ones in shorter grass (those these often have most twisty stalks). just very adaptable wee things methinks

I'm looking for 100-500 prints of semilanceata. I have a lot to offer. Please PM me for details.

And thank you all for sharing such wonderful photos. Great way to spend a little time on the boards. I really appreciate all the hard work you folks put into bringing these pictures to us.

Have a fantastic weekend.

I totally agree. My tip is, if you find one in tall grass, be sure to have a good hoke through the grass in the immediate area because they tend to grow in patches, and there are usually more hiding in the grass within a couple of feet if you pull the grass apart.

exactly - and then you can sometimes see them in all their life stages from pin to LBM to drying/dried and fully canopied (and beyond... i'm not against taking just the stalk of a Lib when the caps has basically had it)
finding a fat flush that included the full spectrum of libs from babies to granddads was a hallelujah moment for me

In your own back yard nice one! Yeah last year was a bad one for me in Wicklow too, really had to put the effort in found the majority in woodland grasses. In saying that another member found thousands in Wicklow last year. Hoping he makes an appearance this season. Well it’s pissing down now thunderstorm warnings till the am!
