It crossed my mind on a walk/pick today, so to anyone that may have the knowledge, certain parts of the land I pick on produce different types of libs, there is one area that ONLY grows small ones (see pic below) that reach about 4-5cm in height, out of the four years of picking on the land it has always been that way, my question is what is causing that? they seem to know how long to get to maximise spore distribution i reckon i find the largest and longest (and sometimes weirdest) examples in long grass and reeds and smaller and generally more regularly formed ones in shorter grass (those these often have most twisty stalks). just very adaptable wee things methinks

I totally agree. My tip is, if you find one in tall grass, be sure to have a good hoke through the grass in the immediate area because they tend to grow in patches, and there are usually more hiding in the grass within a couple of feet if you pull the grass apart.
