@SpinsGQ, Welcome to the Shroomery! Yes it's true that some of them don't have nipples and have broader caps. These were previously known as Psilocybe strictipes, but recent DNA analysis has proved that these are all in fact the same species. They can also range in size quite considerably too. Any that you are not sure of, please create your own ID thread and we will be more than happy to ID them for you. Don't use this particular thread for ID requests though, because this one is just for confirmed sightings and discussion, and it tends to piss some people off.

I've never heard that. Where did you read it, I would be interested to know? But I would think that DNA trumps morphology anyhow. Although, as far as I am aware, Psilocybe strictipes hasn't yet been deprecated, but according to people in the know it is the same species as P. semilanceata and it is only a matter of time before it is officially recognised.

@Duggstar, no they were more like the ones in your earlier post. As far as I can recollect, I have seen some the same as those in @Foggydews post too.

I’ll have to read up what you mean by create my own ID thread though as I’m sure I’ll have photos to post.

Thanks

Even the more conical ones often don't have a nipple either, if that's what you are talking about. But you could be talking about Conocybe species or something else. I would need to see pics. Conocybes would have ochre or rusty coloured gills.

So went up to usual spot in the Comeraghs (c. 400m) and didnt see any of the liberty caps I usually trust and was on the way back to car and came across a little patch with these babies hanging out together.

Picked others which I’m unsure of and as I’m new to this group I was wondering what’s the correct thread to post pictures of the others on?
Thanks @Duggstar for your help yesterday.

Up in the Glens of Antrim again. The lowest ones I found were at about 70m, and I found them as high as 220m.

Update:

10.7g dried - by far by biggest August haul!

I could easily have got a lot more, but I started late, and with the warm humid weather, the flies eventually got the better of me, so I decided to call it a day. Got about 120g wet weight, but I know my scales are dodgy and I need a new set. It looks like more than 120g to me.

Nice find FoggyDew, what altitude did you find them? How long did you spend?

I'm kicking myself I didn't go up to my spot in Antrim today! I thought it was gonna rain more than it actually did. I had a scout around the low lying areas near where I live though, but still found nothing.

About 300 by the woods again. Around an hour, had to have a good rummage to find most of them. Checked another pasture spot nearby on Tuesday and there was nothing not even around the sheltered parts.

Rain forecast over night for my usual spot, is it best to go up as soon as possible I.e. the next day or should I leave it a couple of day?
