That's the Glens of Antrim, a real gem of a place, almost out in the wilderness. I could only get about 2 radio stations up there (just about) and no 4G or anything, brilliant! If you ever come to Northern Ireland I would thoroughly recommend it. It's not actually where I live, I'm about an hour and a half away, but where I live it's a bit further south and lower lying and libs haven't popped up here locally, so that's the only reason I go up there. There's lots of other nice places in Northern Ireland to such as the Giant's Causeway and the various Game of Thrones filming locations, but those places are usually overrun with tourists, especially in summer, but this place is quiet and has some beautiful little villages.

Thanks. Very picturesque. Lovely wet environment. Unlike the drought stricken land where I am now. The liberty cap population I picked in far north Queensland of all places lacked the familiar nipple on the cap on larger specimens.

Some of the Irish ones have very thick stems. They'd weigh a bit too if a collection consisted only of larger ones. All the best this season.

Yeah, I could have picked a better day, but it happens to be my day off so there was nothing else for it but to don my waterproofs and make the most of it!

That's not just an Australian thing, I see a lot of those types here too, in some locations more than others.

They're early this year. I found them as low as 130m over 3 weeks ago. I can't promise you you'll find them lower than this, but there's only one way to find out for sure, if you know what I mean.

Some more finds from the Glens. Interestingly, some of these appear to be growing directly from the roots of rushes (Juncaceae sp.) which isn't a type of grass!

Are they spread out all across the Glens or do you just have a few specific patches?

...not going to steal your spot or anything...

Anyone know what the craic is with the Curragh? Seen it mentioned here so often, but never tried hunting there. Might be too early yet, but wanted to get some input first as I’m coming from Limerick. Anyone with the inside scoop?

It’s a very large area, and I’m sure there’s lots of places they grow. I can’t tell you exactly where I got them, but they were high up in the Glens, I didn’t find much in the lower parts.

@duggstar And are they all Psilocybe semilanceata as the one in the first and fourth photo look a little different to me that your typical liberty cap and I prob would have left them go. Still learning here....

Yes, they're all the same. They can be quite variable in appearance and size. Sometimes they have a conical cap, sometimes they can have a broader cap, sometimes they have a nipple on top, sometimes they don't, when they're dry they have a creamy coloured cap, and when they're wet they have a brownish and translucent cap.

Lads how long does it take shrooms to grow again after you pick? I never seem to have any luck. I'm checking wet marshy fields where sheep are grazing, right next to a woods and finding nothing. Getting right down on my hands and knees too, checking spots where shrooms are known to grow. Am I just getting unlucky and checking spots that have just been picked?

EDIT: Went out again and found 1 mushroom. Is this a lib? Got a heap of blackberries though 😂
