Yeeewwww!
My spots are finally flushing! Bit disappointed that 10-20mm didn't hit any where around me though.

Very nice Azza,

Out of curiosity, how long does it take the pins to grow and open up and mature before we can pick?
Is it all dependent on rainfall and minimum temps?
Want to head back to a patch where there were only pins last Wednesday. We have had heaps of rain since and a cold snap up here in Newie too. I’m getting antsy to go back

Cheers

Go check em, May be best time before than fully tan or get water logged or start to rot.

From 1cm pin to 3-5cm about four days or so depending on conditions

This is in Sydney, my spot in the BMs only yielded 5g last monday so thought I would try my luck around here considering the big downpour and cold spike we've had this last week. Got real lucky with it.

Congrats. I'm probably gonna head out tomorrow; would you recommend heading north or west? Last time I went out I had success North, but haven't really ventured west in the suburbs. Never realised how big Sydney is until now!

I wouldn't have a clue, any place is as good as the next. This is my first season so I don't have a lot of experience to share.
I did jump on google maps and went through some streets looking for some ideal conditions.
Funny thing is I rode past these areas a couple of times before the conditions came to. Did about 5 hours of searching to find areas that I thought would fruit.

Goodluck

Sup : - )

Went for a cruise in Belanglo on Friday, first time picking for a couple of years since Bangalow up north.

Didn't have any luck with gold tops unfortunately, thought I found a couplie but unfortunately no bruising :frown:

Found an Amanita Muscaria though, made my day : - )

Had always thought these were poisonous unless treated properly for tripping. However after doing some more research apparently only need a bit of a dry out like gold tops ? Has anyone had any experience on these?

Also found some pins that may be good maybe mid week ?

Hoping to stay about more local on Tuesday and suss out Turramurra/Lane Cove River on Sydney's North Shore, any tips/specific areas would be greatly appreciated via DM

Couple of photos from Friday

Thanks for reading

Had a hunt last night between the pouring rain and came home with these meaty little caramel subs.
Is there such a thing as too much rain for mushrooms?

Cheers

Indeed it can.
Yes, They become waterlogged (browner, translucent, fall apart easier & rot occurs eventually.
Good specimens will mature like this;

These ones are watterlogged but its minor;
Got these guys just in time before wind and rains hit;

Tanned caps without a black dot in centre of cap, it still can turn caramel with %RH over night or wet again by rain.
These are ones with black spots;

But if they're mostly caramel or half tanned they can still get 50% bigger...
But... left to long or in bad conditions they go to shit quickly or fully bloom and leave purple marks of spores;

Cheers for that Azza,

Good insight into the effects of the rain on mushrooms. I went to the patch today that was pinning last Wednesday and came up trumps. Was surprised to see that they were not waterlogged at all. This was half the haul, my mate took the other half and left plenty of pins to do their thing.
