Tripping in a Roman Catholic context?
    #25965624 -

Post is as the title says. Is it possible to consume mushrooms or other psychedelics within a Catholic/Christian context? If so, what would be the proper way to do this?

I ask because I am thinking about tripping again soon but recently am taking my spirituality more seriously, or, at least, I would like to. Furthermore, I've had some bad trips in the past, and I firmly believe that psychedelics can open one up to what I now just call "the spirit world". I have no doubt that one can contact entities with the aid of psychedelics, and I suffer no delusions that all or even most of these entities would be benevolent. I would logically assume that any evil entity would do it's best to present itself as good in order to trick the seeker.

And yet I still believe psychedelics can hold great spiritual promise. I pretty much know what my pattern for reproducing a bad trip is. Take acid at psychedelic concert of music festival, smoke weed, end up over-interpreting song lyrics and having very destructive negative thoughts that seem unlike me. End up spending rest of the trip holding on to sanity and not letting the negative thoughts take over. When I first took psychedelics my trips weren't like that, they were much more enlightening.

I tend to believe the reason for bad trips, aside from simply wanton abuse of a powerful substance, is that they open up a perception of the spirit world and the problem is that the average person, myself, has no idea how to properly navigate this realm and protect myself. Shamans use all sorts of techniques to ward off evil spirits and protect voyagers, and yet the average hippie wook acidhead does not do this. I know I didn't. For years I had a naive belief than psychedelics would guide me towards the truth, and now I feel this is not the case, and potentially even completely the opposite without a firm rudder on my ship to speak.

I guess I'm just looking for tripping advice here, but within the context of traditional forms of religion and spirituality. I was unsure whether I should post here or in The Psychedelic Experience, but wanted input from here for sure

I'm not sure what you mean? Are you wanting a catholic themed trip? I don't see how it matters if you are catholic. Psychedelics transcend all belief systems. They are the core of what religion is trying to say. But can't.

In the Spirituality and Mysticism subforum, it is the standard policy not to do any religion bashing, especially in a thread devoted to religion. This is not a critical debate forum, so if your wish is to be critical, please go on over to the Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology sub. Thank you.

Religion bashing? if I said, "the catholic Church cannot speak on the safety of children, they've squandered that right on the tips of their dicks."

But criticism is a healthy discored. I didn't even give a negative criticism...

My best bet would be a habitat where the "Amanita Muscaria" thrives,  near deer or the "cedar of Lebanon" tree. Climates similar to Eastern Europe

I don't know that there's a proper way to do it, but in college I went to mass a few times on few different psychedelics. Mushrooms and 2ce if I remember correctly. Only light doses.

If you do it, I recommend finding a cathedral where they still celebrate the extraordinary form, and stay in the back.

The purpose of a spiritual trip is to 'ascend' all physical concerns and furnishings.

'Context' therefore, if anything, is merely the paradigm you have beforehand, before the paradigm itself is relinquished.

You might find some of the stuff which gnostic Christians have written to be illuminating.

Also, just prep your mind before your dose and you should be fine.  Just know that each thing which might show up might be a part of your mind, malevolent things are probably problems which you have shoved down or not dealt with properly in your regular state of consciousness.

for real tho.
I wish I knew more people to trip with in a christian setting. I went to some santo daimo meetings for awhile until I had to move and it left an impression.  I like the idea of communal tripping with set intention but with less structure-- santo daime was a little too rigid and I don't see the point of being pressured to sing in filipino and being discouraged to go off on your own if things get too hot. I would prefer something  closer to an acid test or grateful dead concert but with way less people. definitely a church or weekly gathering centered around lsd as a sacrament in a kind of church tho. I'm cool with roman catholic imagery. you could have a picture of christ , a golden pinecone etc to keep the intention set on submission of the will & death/ rebirth in christ the snake. I'll pick the hymns and we'll sing in english, some musicians would be nice, anything to get a good flow going

You could, but that's not what 'Christ' is, and such imagery has indoctrinated minds down strong tangents, in attempts to make physical things of things which are not.

It's really up to each person to manifest their physical explanation, rather than the physical explanation of another being pressed upon their experience.

Personally, I feel I've grasped The Logos (Christ), but I wouldn't sit in a setting with different iterations and expressions of a man being subject to crucifixion.

I feel these attempts at making things physical are what causes the Layman to distance themselves from religion and theology.

Focus first on priming your canvas, then you'll see paints that you need to see.

I don't have a problem with religious art depicting jesus being crucified or whatever. its a strong image of ego death which I think would come across more clearly while high.
and it wouldnt be much of a church if no crosses or jesus pics were permitted

That's Jesus however - not 'Christ'.  Jesus represented through acts, the essence of Christ.

'Christ' is a suffix assigned to those who are understood to bear Knosis of the Christ essence - 'The Logos'.

'Christ' is completely without ego, so the crucifixion doesn't show ego death.  It shows that ego never was - which is the condition of 'Christ'.  It is an exemplification of selflessness.

As mentioned, those ornaments which you have come to expect of a church (which differ according to religion) are a product of indoctrination and a bricks and mortar church is but an outward manifestation of the true church which is none other than ones own mind.

Likewise, the paintings pertaining to the Renaissance of a product of outward projection influenced by indoctrinated concepts which carry momentum from one instance to the next.

Nuance.

Set sail, with the boat of your life, sure the Mushroom may guide you but ultimately you must set your compass on God.

The universe is filled with consciousnesses, that we all see.
You got to realize that they are all connected into the Central Consciousness THAT IS the Universe - which religious people call God.

The mushroom leads you in accordance with the Will of the Universe.

You are not a student of the professor (the mushroom) you are a student of that there is to know.

The mushroom, too is a Being, just a higher being than the cast into your single body part of you.

You too are so much more than that. You are the Universe entirely, right now, and the mushroom helps you navigate that.

I play trumpet for catholic churches every summer. I took a year off one year and started up again the following year. It inspired me to start eating datura again.

Once I started eating datura I started getting high off of my cigarettes again.

I'd probably start eating datura again if I could but the datura that was growing in my neighborhood isn't there anymore.
