the 'subscribe to pewdiepie' was more likely to do with the ongoing subscription war pewdiepie's channel is in against t-series, an Indian youtube channel

Pewdiepie has had the largest subscriber count on youtube for a number of years; this recently was challenged (and surpassed if my recollection is correct?) by a rising channel
as part of the back and forth between channels, they started hiring other people to promote or degrade the opposing channel in different ways

not saying Pewdiepie requested the guy shoot up a mosque for attention
just discouraged that a primarily non-political video gaming channel is going to receive all sorts of negative attention because of a psycho

I'm not saying it is viktor but we must be more kind to one another here on The Shroomery. We're psychonauts, we're all about being inclusive and lovely. :peace:

To hell with dollarization and Fear and Loathing-esque trippy view. This Hollywood facade is a part of what causes all the nuttery.

I’m not disagreeing with you Tantrika, because I don’t know much about pewdiepie (other than seeing the name all over reddit in recent months), but hasn’t he been called out for right-wing connections and vocal racism several times?  I seem to remember reading about him using “the n word” in his vids.  Obviously that alone didn’t inspire this dude to slaughter all these people, but i think it makes sense that pew die pie got name dropped in an event like this.

What a shitty thing to happen.  :frown:

Yeah he has
he called someone a "nigger" in a heated moment during a gaming stream when he got unexpectedly killed
since it was live, the best he could do was "I meant to say asshole"

he had bigger controversy when he tried to use the website fiver to hire some people to hold up a sign that said death to jews
which he claims he did as a stunt to see how absurd of things he could get people to do for money

as mentioned, am not personally a fan of pewdiepie
it just gets real frustrating to see mainstream media pick up and run with all the bad news about a subsection of amateur media

youtubers, and more particularly gaming youtubers, get the good disregarded because the media recognizes the bad sells better

this whole video is an interesting insight
but it talks a bit about pewdiepie's charity work around 12:05 if you don't want to bother with the full video and hearing good things about a hated subsection of youtube

most relevant to the current situation is that when people started bashing t-series too harshly, Pewdiepie stepped up and ran a charity stream for vulnerable people in India to try and mitigate some of the effect

am also not saying that we should excuse everything he does and says
but am just moreso of the opinion that in an instance like this
we should at very least wait and see how he handles the situation, rather than sit around and talk about how he is a shit bird because of who he follows on youtube or twitter

my personal hope is that he uses this disaster in a similar manner to the India case
and does a stream to raise money for Muslim charities

but he could also end up a fuckwit and not try and counter the narrative, totally recognize that is possible

I appreciate the post and info.  Not gonna lie, I smiled when you unironically referred to a racist outburst as a “heated gaming moment”.  But I get what you’re saying- the dude has a lot of output and a lot of followers.  Shits gonna happen that makes him look bad at times, and maybe he’s not one of these “alt right gateway drug” things, like gamergate, but he doesn’t look totally clean of it to me.  All I’m saying is that I can see why this NZ shooter, with right wing extremist views, was into pewdiepie.  I’m sure that pewdiepie, in reality, discourages this kind of attack and similar terrorism.  Hopefully this event forces him to critically examine what kind of message and content he’s putting out into the world.

If that made you smile, here is another one
genuinely stand by the heated gaming moment statement
to this day, have no way of knowing if the person he was playing against was black, white, compassionate, or themselves a racist
he dropped the most offensive word he could because he was frustrated
personally relate to this; at a halloween party years ago we fired up Super Smash Bros.
and everyone who was a guest who did not normally game with us was horribly offended by my insults thrown at my friend, and his back at me
despite there being no actual animosity between us and no basis for the various slurs
trash-talk for the sake of trash-talk
but it happened in a living room so the biggest audience were the people who had come over for the party

am not even denying alt-right ties
just figure that by actual content put out, the shooter was more likely to have been directly inspired by someone like Ben Shapiro
than by someone like Pewdiepie

you even mentioned hearing him use the word nigger in a few second clip on a stream
but he also uploads tens of hours of content every week
most of which is shitty and stupid, but also not really great for inspiring hate

also just found it really interesting that The Ecstatic chose to show off Pewdiepie's following list
rather than his actual statement on the matter on twitter, which had been made 6 or 7 hours before TE's post
or, at least, showing both

I get it.  Gamers are infamous for their trash talk and I doubt that every instance of it is genuine.  It’s just codified language and that’s how you all talk.  While I personally wouldn’t participate in that kind of thing at this point in my life, I think younger me would’ve been attracted specifically to that component of gaming.

I still feel like pewdiepie is a guy in his 30s (I think?) who markets to millions of elementary and middle school aged kids- he needs to be more careful about what he’s putting out there, in all manners.  He should cut ties to hate mongers like Shapiro, Peterson, Molyneaux, etc.

I'm not blaming video games on their own but games where killing is fun is a part of the total, it's our culture. It influences kids. It's very simple.

I don't game as much as I used to, no motivation on my part, but when I did we used to say nasty shit to each other all the time. In college my buddy and I even had a guy knock on our door and try to beat us up because we called his girlfriend a pussy. We never said anything racist though.

No, EU citizens have NO moral or legal obligation to take in any third world migrants at all. They have borders, national sovereignty and citizenship for a valid reason. No one in their right mind would sign up for some insane free for all, not gonna happen.

These EU citizens you speak so highly of benefits off third world misery.

Obviously they have moral obligation to take in poverty-stricken human beings. It's very simple.

The only people that benefit from bringing in broke third world migrants into first world nations are The Elite, the rest of the 99% of the population are fucked over in a large variety of reasons.

In EU, many migrants take the jobs Europeans don't want.

If EU citizens want to help third world citizens, the best deal would be assistance from a distance. That doesn't involve inviting third world migrants with no money, education or language ability into their homelands.

Unfortunately, with this absolute crap integration-system I agree with you.

Tribalism is real, but it starts small and then moves outward depending on the environment. This one tribe is hippy pie in the sky, time to get back to reality.

I'm very aware of tribalism, as you can read here (keep reading). One tribe isn't a hippie dream. Psychopath leaders divide us. They're most often if not always right wingers and complete fucking insane.

Donald President IS NOT about one tribe he misguides the pasturage.

We need benevolent leaders.

How many people is the EU obligated to take in according to your rules?  Where do you draw the line?  How low of a standard of living should they endure to make you feel better?

Also. how do EU citizens benefit from third world "misery"?

It's not our leaders that divide us, it's our race, values, culture, tribalism and geography that does it.

There's the real world and there's the fantasy world you want to exist, getting self-righteous on these issues makes you feel better about yourself, but it's not realistic at all.
