Tryna go all out. Just G2G 3 pints to 22qt. Got like 50 more pints colonizing and a dozen quarts already nocced with agar. Got tired of mold so I started with 500 petris. 80 down and about to pour more

Okay so, I had an idea for a water bath that can keep an even temperature using a sous vide. If you don't know what a sous vide is it looks like this



Its function is to keep water at whatever temperature you set it to. After PCing Agar I thought I might try using one to get it to exactly 120 before pouring.

Obviously a tupperware full of warm water w/ a thermometer works fine. But, if you have this on hand I'm thinking it'll work pretty good.

Lots of guys do this, I've read 117°F is optimal and will render less condensation than even 120... it will be warm enough to pour a sleeve without starting to coagulate: though if you return to bath between stacks, this'd not be an issue

What do you guys feel the best temp to pour agar? I bought a gun for testing heat before pouring.

Last dishes I poured have a lot of condensation.  Even as of now.

117°F is said to be optimal... or so says a quick search function return for "temp for pouring"... I didn't even type agar lol

I usualy just wait till the condensation goes away befor using my dishes. By the time the condensation goes away I usualy know if my dishes are clean because any contaminants would be germinated my then.

Yeah. But it just seems to not be going away. Like one day it was gone.. and then it came back lol. I mean I am looking through the bottom to see growth and whatnot.

If I put a warm cup of water on the noc'd dishes.. do you think itll harm the spores I've got growing? This condensation is just annoying because I can't see clearly but don't wanna kill off the myc.  Its just a dot at the moment.. but still.

There would be no problem with pressure cooking my agar with my grains right? 90 minutes wouldn't fuck any of the agar.. right? Lol.

I wouldnt mess with them: if theyre growing and not showing contaminants, id just ignore the condensation and pour a bit cooler next go... or go ahead and pour some cooler, and transfer the whole colony if It's clean and you just cant handle it lol... cut the agar about a millimetre past the leading edge and it wont even slow down... may not be applicable if you pour your plates thick, as you want to avoid contact with the lid


It's suggested to avoid 45+ minutes due to carmelization: but I never PC agar more than about 30 minutes so idk...

These are about 3 days out from 1t. I'm a little worried about the circles around the cultures. Is it bacterial or from the myc first timer here.
