Clean growth right now... worry about picking any specific morphology once you have a clean culture

How long does it take for you guys usually see to see growth from a clone? I took some tissue from the center of the stem and it's been about 3 days. Just wondering on time frames with clones!

Depending on size of specimen I see recovery and growth as early as two days and as late as 1 week. I have a mex clone that is just now fuzzing out from back on 1/27...or 31. Gotta just sit back and relax...let it happen:)

Smaller tissue samples recover much faster and presents less risk of bacteria IME

Is it better to toss the 2 with contams and make a 2nd plate from the 2 cleans ones or is it better to make a 2nd plate for all of them?

Totally up to you booboo... if there are clean plates to work with, I'd go that route, but agar makes it exceptionally easy to transfer away from contamination

How do you plan to cultivate them? Or just spawning outside and hoping for the best?

Thank you to everyone on here giving advice.
Finally got some clean cultures after practicing sterile technique. Ones a clone ones ms spore.

I actually have 5 of each from the donor plates and they all look clean.
Can’t wait to drop them to grain. !!
All I got on hand is micro spore tape for a jar filter.
I’ve also heard of a few of you using a plastic jar lid with no filter.

Micropore works fine, though I suggest 2 layers... unmodified, one piece plastic lids work, but require being a 1/4 turn loose for GE
:horrified:

This is likely a better question for Cultivation General Discussion  as it doesn't pertain to agar lol

(Though technically didn't really ask lol)

By doing a shit ton more reading and learning to start with.  The more I learn the more I realize I don’t know lol

I plan on doing slurries and a 2-3 beds.  My area is not a morel area but hope to try some test spots around white pine, poplar/birch areas and a couple different bed locations in my yard.  I also plan on growing out on grain as well for the beds.  Going to get as much as I can for spring.

This is all dependent on what else I learn in the mean time.  If anyone knows anything, I’m happy to hear suggestions!

I have heard that a thick non nutritious casing layer is required and that they like sandy loamy soil. Maybe try using some shade cloth as well

I come from a very heavy natural morel area. Tons of burns and picking with my mom growing up. In their retirement time while in beautiful NC on some considerable acreage they started growing some varieties. The only success they had with morels took em a ton of time. They nailed it by burning pine in a couple β€œbed” locations in the fall and letting the ash and coal sit over the wet winter. Slurries in the spring but didn’t have anything pop till fall, but the next year doubled output for em. My mom decided creating a man made burn area was what ended up working the best. This anecdotal...but it worked for them. Patience was definitely the name of the game from what she said.

I think the idea was that morels will colonize an area of higher nutrition and form mushrooms in areas of less nutrition because the formation of a mushroom is actualy a survival mechanism in morels. I have no idea how accurate this info is cause I read it a looong time ago but that’s my two Β’

awesome HH.  I use a wood stove to heat my house, was planning on spreading ashes around.  It is softwood (mostly jack pine) I burn so good to hear that they burned pine.
the only time I've seen a live, still in the ground morel was visiting a friend in Nebraska and they were growing along the elk horn river amongst mostly mature oak trees. They were black morel though.  There is someone about 50 miles away that can pick morels some years, not every year but he won't reveal his spot so I can't say what exactly that ground is like.  Damn secretive mushroom hunters! LOL  Actually I am one of those.  I have my special chanterelle spots I won't show anyone.  Some years they grow all over the place though but in the lean years when no one else can find them, I usually can get a few feeds anyway.

Sorry to hijack this agar thread.  To keep on topic, @rams gave me this link Morphological development of Morchella conica mycelium on different agar media if anyone is interested.  I just got it so haven't read it yet.

This is my last pour until I'm set up in my new house

I did a bunch of work. Cloned a grow I (lol) did in a planter. Wild Winter White Oyster, Enoki, Pearl Oyster, PE, and APE.

The pearl oyster I have on grain right now isn't looking good, so I'm starting to grow it again from my first plate, taking a new transfer to clean up.

My PE master isn't looking great. I used grains I knew I shouldn't have for a couple of jars and paid for it. Same with the APE. I'm still growing and spawning them, but I lost the master G2G.

Also, I modified my recipe for a semi-Sagar. I felt like my mix wasn't nutritious enough, so I also upped those:

400ml Filtered Water
4g Agar
8g LME

I poured a little thicker than I needed to because I was just going to dump the rest at the end. Used almost 200ml for 6 plates

Vibe, you got hit with the mold brotha!  I have a plate that came sterile from Carolina Supply that had spores on the lid...dropped down to the agar.  Prettiest mycelial growth ever, and boom the green mold.  Mine is Pen for sure.  I wrapped a second time as it is sporulating but have kept it on the shelf to monitor for edification...As of today the mycelium is now overtaking the mold growth.  Stoked to watch it go down.  Of course, new colonies are popping up since it loves to sporulate, but fun to watch the mycelium take it over.  Sci-fi in real life.  Needless to say it is the only plate of 20 so no worries, but I won't be opening it to take a transfer.  I don't see the need to risk....check it out:

Lmao hell yeah that's dope dude! Mine wasn't even inoc. So it must have happened when I poured it. My pouring was pretty sloppy for my first time because I was using a bottle too big for my SAB. This weekend will be better. Got myself a media bottle  and now I know to pour thinner than  previously.

All about learning and adapting! Haha.
