Potting an Obregonia denegrii
    #23626139 - 09/08/16 03:07 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Only have grown seedlings before, today I got a large plant. I was surprised by how delicate the root system is, there's no taproot at all like on a loph or ariocarpus and a lot of the roots are torn. Any special advice on potting this thing? I was just going to do the usual, stick it in perlite/grit/crushed lime/verm.

I found out (the hard way) Obregonia does not like full sun, but that's the only difference I have found to other similar plants like Strombocactus. I use the same substrate for all my lime-loving mexican globulars.

I would let it sit with bare roots for a couple of days.  If any of the roots have been damaged this will help them heal.  Then pot it in your mix - which looks good - and leave it for a week before watering.
I do find O. denegrii doesn´t like too much sun - mine sits in the shade from a bigger pot.

Maybe some mod or whatever might think this has now been long enough.
