Cats and pots
    #3232634 - 10/08/04 10:34 AM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I'm going to be bringing in my cacti soon (I now bring them in at night and put them back out during the day).  I have a cat, who seems to like to pee in the soil.  Is there anything I can to to prevent this as well as get rid of that nasty cat pee smell? :lipsrsealed:

Also, what causes the spiraling of certain peyote plants?  Is it genetic or just a chance occurence?  Because I've noticed one of my 6 year old peyote looks like it might.  I just wanted to know, I think spiraled peyotes are awesome!

Yes, that would be the best solution, but I love my cat (I usually hate cats). I just don't want the damn thing getting into my plants.

I mean, how could you kill this (besides shotgun, poison, burlap bag and pond, etc)?

Perhaps something along these lines would work?

http://www.petsbuy.com/details.aspx?productcode=FP1700

Other than that, do some basic training with your cat. When he gets near the cactus, get out the squit gun. Spraying cats with water when the repeatedly go near something they're not supposed to teaches them to avoid it. They learn to associate the object(the cactus) with being sprayed with water, so they avoid it. If I had my psych book around I'd tell you the technical term for it, but I can't remember it off-hand.

Well, since he'll be afraid to piss on the cactus if you train him properly, there shouldn't be any problems with smell.

If he's peeing on other things, get carpet cleaner or something like that from a pet store.

I think its called operant conditioning.

i would rather have a cat peeing on my pedros than a rottweiler munching on both the pedro and its substrate/vase...
let the cat come around, otherwise they get curious and the forbidden has a better taste for the cats too.
i started to get more torches and spiny ones. =)

I put a bunch of tacks in my big pot and that seemed to work. I'll guess I'll just do that again!

My dog likes to stick his damn nose in my pots and has damaged a lot of plants (hasn't damaged any psychoactive plant yet, though )

Than there's the damn pigeons that live right above my Pedro that keep shitting all over the cactus  :mad2:. Every few days i have to clean it so that acid shit doesn't build over it. Pedro doesn't seem to mind the crap though .
