After 13 years of the most callous neglect, today I repotted my Lithops verruculosa. I don´t know much about these, but it has grown into a nice clump which flowers every autumn.

The roots were very shallow indeed, so I stood it on fresh compost in a fairly shallow terracotta dish. The structure when viewed from underneath was very reminiscent of a head of broccoli. I hope it continues to do well.

A single Lithops plant looks like this

but they have a tendency to grow clumps of individual plants, which is what has happened to mine. Later in the year I will post a pic of it in flower - if it survives its repot, that is!!

That's a prize winning specimen for sure. They thrive in neglect in your climate, I had no problem keeping them when I lived in the SW US, but they're actually pretty hard to keep alive outside of a Mediterranean climate. Awesome plant!

LOL, yes, this one is wonderfully ugly. It took 13 years to grow into that from a single plant.

Today repotted my Lithops hookeri - the same age (from 2003) as its compatriot above, but has been rather slower, making a far smaller clump, although it, too, started with a single plant.

I bought others at the same time, and there have been a few casualties. These come from very dry and sunny areas in South Africa, and you have no real chance of any success with them at all unless you have a sunny climate. I tried a couple when I was growing in Scotland - never saw a flower and they were short-lived.

Some new arrivals, from a nursery in Germany. They all arrived in good shape, with spines in good order, but were all totally pot-bound in the tiniest plastic pots. First job was a complete repot into terracotta pots and my standard Mexican desert cactus mix.

They are - Turbinicarpus schwarzii, Epithelantha micromeris - that one has a pup, I think unusual for this species - and was a freebie from the supplier. Thelocactus lausseri, Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus, and Aztekium ritteri - that last a tiny (but expensive) specimen on its own roots. Maybe I am being a bit optimistic buying that at my age.
Although from a professional nursery, they will still be going into quarantine for a while just to ensure no pests are around. And they will be gently acclimated to the brighter sun they will be getting.

Today I repotted my somewhat battered looking Astrophytum myriostigma var. nudum var. quadricostata, started from seed I traded in 2013. Has grown rather slowly for an Astrophytum - that is a 4" pot. Developed a pronounced growth line a couple of winters back which is still prominent. Has yet to flower, and I will be interested to see how long it retains four ribs - they tend to revert to the more usual five rib form in time. Commonly called the bishop´s cap cactus - the four ribs resembling a bishop´s mitre.

Spanishfly said: As they say, NEVER say die !!! Just over a year ago I got some seeds of Cumarinia odorata - a rarely grown monotypic genus. Just a few, and I sowed them in a small pot. After some months nothing had happened, so I put that pot to one side - needed the lighting space. Yesterday I decided to recycle that pot and found 3 little sprouts - sitting in dust dry soil. So I gave them some sorely needed water and put that pot under the fluoros again - it will stay there until the spring. So don´t be too quick to give up on your seeds - they just might be a bit slow.
Following on from the above, in the last 4 months the sprouts have done very well, and today I potted on the largest - it was looking very much like a miniature adult, and just starting to produce hooked central spines. Here it is in a 6cm pot - it will stay under fluoros for a week, before being gradually introduced to the sun.

All very beautiful fly. I especially love the small aztekium. I need to really grow that again. And on its own roots. Awesome brother. And youre never too old to buy anything. Legacy ftw.

Kind of you to say so, ferrel.
In 2014 I bought a couple of rare species on evilBay - both Toumeya papyracantha, one being a cristata - both were grafted, this species being tricky on its own roots outside habitat. I had to bid some pretty stiff prices, and was a bit miffed when both plants arrived with hardly any root. I put them in some 8cm pots and hoped for the best - nothing much visible happened for the next 18 months.
Today I unpotted them and was very pleased to find two pots stuffed full of roots - so they have gone up a size into 10 cm pots - maybe I will now see some above ground action in the coming season.

Also repotted a Ariocarpus bravoanus ssp. hintonii - this one seeded itself - amazing how they do that. Flowered for the first time last year.

My pair of Geohintonia mexicana were sharing a pot, but it was getting a bit cramped - there were also some Pelecyphora strobiliformis seedlings hitching a ride - those grow like weeds in these parts.

A lot more room to grow now!

I just sowed a few seeds of these the other day. Those plants are awesome. How old are these specimens? The seeds are retardedly small, as small or smaller than aztekium.

I have had these about 6 years - when I put them in the same pot there was ample room, so they have about doubled their diameter. Good luck with yours, P.Zap.

Today I got all the Lophophora williamsii together for a group pic.

I counted 42 individuals in all.
