On My Roof Terrace 3

The Ariocarpus flower show refuses to stop. We had a deluge of rain one night a week ago, followed by warm sunny weather since. This has kept the Ariocarpus plump and warm and producing buds.
This afternoon I had in bloom:
 A. agavoides - I love the magenta colour of this one.
 A. bravoanus - this double header grew an additional head last winter - when it was supposed to be resting. I am waiting to see if it will eventually become two separate plants, which can sometimes happen.
 A. kotschoubeyanus - a slow grower - still completely outgrown by its blooms.
And I love the pure white of A. retusus

 They all look wonderful!

That Ariocarpus Agavoides is beautiful! I cannot wait until my cacti and succulents are flowering! Would have to posses some of the most beautiful flowers in the plant kingdom.
Peace.

Today I took a pic of my Euphorbia obesa - which has become mostruosa - developing 3 growing points.

It started off as a perfectly normal, almost spherical specimen - and in 2009 started to display the 3 growing points.
Since then it has become more extreme, with some offsets developing as well. If I were to detach those, they would grow, initially at least, as typical examples of the species. But I have left them there as they add to its warty appearance.

Looks like that 4 X 1026W, 5800K, fusion lamp may be a bit too powerful for your Euphorbia obesa. Looks mighty toasted on the top. . . . .

Maybe you could re-edit it back into your post and then look at it again to see?

I'm not going lie Spanish, you know I love your plants, but that Euphorbia is busted. Definitely huge, but God it's ugly.
That A. mysriostigma var. nudum and super kabuto behind it look pretty damn sexy though. Got any shots of them?

P.Zap as requested
Astrophytum myriostigma var. nudum - I grew this from seed - must be about 3.5 years ago now.
And a Astrophytum asterias, bought in 2009 - wasn´t actually sold to me as a Superkabuto, and I don´t think it is quite furry enough to qualify. But it certainly has a rather odd shape - it seemed to sulk for a while then burst into life.

That nudum is a beautiful plant. I love the hint of purple blush it has. I've got a few of that variety, hope they look that nice in 10 years. The asterias is very nice too, now that I see it close up I can see it's just a regular one, but still a very nice plant. I've got a soft spot for astros but terrible luck with them. The are far less forgiving about moisture than lophophora. Many of my plants have succumbed to a slip of the watering can.

One reason I only ever use terracotta pots - they keep your plants a little on the dry side - much easier to cope with than too wet !!
Glad you like them, P.Zap, I have some more Astro pics that I want to post eventually - including a GRAFTED one!!!!!

I grew a few A. asterias from seed about 3 years back. I read a thread in another forum about grafting Astrophytum - at the time I thought, ´why on earth graft one of the faster growing cactus genuses?´ But in Sep. 2014 I grafted one to a Myrtillocactus geometrizans - a commonly used grafting stock - as a bit of an experiment.

It has grown and flowered a couple of times - but its brethren, still in the pot they all once shared and on their own roots - have done a lot better.

Well - I just guess that is the power of grafting !!
Good fun to try anyway !!!

This L. wiliamsii I have had for 15 years - it has flowered many, many times and produced masses of seedlings, but has never pupped - unusually for a loph.
But it has started to do something unusual in the last year - it is splitting into two - becoming dichotomous. Now has developed two growing points - and a lump is forming where the two halves meet - I will be watching this space.
