yes, just cover it.
looks like they are running fast, so hopefully it will be fine.
u need to case them though once the substrate is colonized.

No, cover the glass bowl, not the container the bowl is in.....yes, allow light if possible, if not don't worry about it.

Also, it was about 72 hrs ago that I moved the spawn to substrate. Not 24. I let it incubate for 48hrs, and it didn't really do much after the intial 24hrs of incubation.

No one incubates bulk, it's just not needed, it creates it's own heat.

Thanks for the advice.
When I say tuberware I meant the glass bowl PF.
And when I say incubation, that just means in the dark w/o light... no extra heat.
Also, I though a casing layer wasn't needed for this species, but I will case anyhow.

Thank you PF and blindingleaf!

I also never found franks tek, any links?

Well that is not what incubation means.....

And also........

Jars/bags/tubs/trays should colonize @ room temperature getting ambient/indirect light.

Main pinning triggers are full colonization, FAE and Evaporation off of the substrate.

Light is a secondary pinning trigger. For tropical species temperature is not a pinning factor.

P. Cubensis are a tropical species. You could colonize at 70F and fruit at 80F with great results.

Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.

You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.

You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.

Optimal temps are mid 70s throughout the whole grow, but anywhere from 65F-80F is acceptable.

Incubation is outdated/uneeded unless temps in the range stated above cannot be kept.

The inside of the jar is always a few degrees warmer than the outside because the mycellium produces heat..mycellium tends to stall at temps above 83F , and contams thrive.

Fruiting at cooler temps tends to produce denser, meatier fruits, while fruiting at higher temps will often produce hollow, less dense stems.

Mycelium should be exposed to ambient room light from day of inoculation as has been known for many years.  Light is not a pinning trigger until after full colonization and an increase in air is given, and even then it's a secondary pinning trigger.

How can you tell if the substrate is too dry?

T+0: Spawned to monotub
T+7 days: fully colonized. Dew covering substrate and walls
T+10 days: tape removed. Bottom holes stuffed tight, top holes loose. Fan on low pointed away from tub. 72-75F. Slight air movement around tub. Dew still covering substrate
T+13 days: no visible evaporation at all. Bottom holes were loosened but still full of polyfil.
T+16 days: evaporation has occurred off the substrate. Next to no dew now. Much less on walls as well. I realize the latter is just due to temperature differential. Concerned that the substrate is too dry. No knots or pins. Substrate may have slightly (2-4 mm?) pulled away from side walls

What would you do in this situation?

Thanks!

If the sub is drying out adjust your poly/fan and mist a little. You need evaporation to maintain humidity.

It's been proven over and over again. The best answer will come from experiments you conduct for yourself.

"How to cut tub holes without cracking the tub"
I went to Lowes hardware store, and bought four copper pipe connectors in various sizes, less than a dollar each. HD should have them as well. Look for the cheaper ones, not sure of the difference but some went for 3 to 5 dollars each. The ones I bought were a little thinner and cheaper.
Heat them on a electric stove for a few minutes on high and then pick them up with a pair of pliers and they go through the plastic easily.
You may have to wiggle the hot connector a bit, but overall a simple process.

Frank-Thanks for the thread. I have learned a lot from all your posts.

Curious as to what size you got. 1/2" or 3/4" isn't really big enough and no one wants to pay for 1 1/2" copper pipe or fittings. Copper is expensive

Is it possible that I could have enough FAE but not have dry areas around my top holes? The RH in my house is around 60-65 due to an abundance of cooking, grain prep, house plants, marthas and wife who takes 1 hour showers.

Today I left the windows open on a winter day to dry it out, RH dropped to about 40% and dry spots became much larger then before.

This could be why I haven't had the best pin sets using the dialed in method of not misting. I've allowed too much fresh air, and due to the high humidity, the condensation isn't drying up.

I'm hazy on RH, humidity, condensation... does this seem like a reasonable point to anyone?

Idk if this helps FN but I ran five tubs and 3/5 got really dry because I was letting too much FAE in. Without misting I couldn't keep good conditions up. The thing I did notice though was I had a great pinset all of the time because all of the water evapped so I'm not sure about your situation in particular but high FAE is definitely directly related to misting.

If you don't see the dry rings I'd be inclined to say either you have too much FAE or too little. Do you see no condensation at all? I know this is a temperature difference but a dialed in mono should have a temp difference.

I can't dial in my tubs for the life of me.  It seems they always want to dry out!  It is winter and the air humidity is around 20% even with many tubs in a small closet together.

Stuff all the holes as tight as you can and wait for it to fog up.

Start with the top holes, loosen a little bit every 12 hours. That means when you go to bed and when you wake up. Then loosen the sides.

bottom holes tight like virgin pussy...

top holes like an Iowa women with 14 kids.... that she didn't even know she was pregnant with.

RH at my place is around 17%... that's extremely low...

bottom holes are like 4-5 x as much poly-fill as the top holes.
