Pure sodium taste like shit. It burns your mouth to eat it straight. it is refined beyond what is found in nature, and because it is so refined it is found as harsh and one note

Salts like pink Himalayan have many other minerals that alter the flavour to be much more pleasing and less harsh to the palate, and provide a more complex flavour. They are much less refined, and are what is found in nature. They are mined directly from halite deposits.

I get it. You like what you like. You cant grasp differences in flavour. Thats fine. But seriously, Im concerned with how hard it is for you to grasp.

It really is pretty basic.

I never actually mentioned anything about differences in flavor between salts from different sources (which of course there are,) I've just been arguing against some of your chemistry claims. Pure sodium certainly would burn your mouth if you were unwise enough to put it in there. Not just chemical burns, it literally makes flames.

Like I already stated, there is a huge difference between the sodium used in commercial products and basic table salt, and specialty salts.

No, there isn't. Sodium is an element with a single naturally occurring isotope, the rest being radioactive and unstable. The sodium in one thing is identical to the sodium in anything else.

God damn dense people.

Table salt, and the stuff in processed food is pure sodium and iodine. It burns the palate, it is one note, and poor quality.

Then there is salt like pink himalayan salt. Far less processed when compared to table salt. It also has been found to have up to 10 different minerals in it that are all naturally occurring. These 10 different minerals in addition to sodium is what give specialty salts a more complex and less harsh flavour.

Do you now understand the difference between refined table salt with added iodine, versus naturally occurring salt deposits that have a more complex composition?

Did you know table salt also comes from natural deposits? Speciality salt are speciality salts due to the impurities from their sources, and yes they have different flavors. Of course being a chef you would know that if your salt has an intense salty flavor you use less of it, and that you can cook good food with normal "poor quality" salt.

And then it is refined back to pure sodium and iodine added. Since you appear especially dense since you still cant understand this. Also, often decaking agents are added such as Sodium Ferrocyanide created from iron chloride, calcium, and hydrogen cyanide.

and your calling me dense... First off, most salt is not refined to pure sodium chloride, it forms that way in natural deposits. Secondly the Iodine should not significantly alter the flavor of the salt due to it's low concentration. Anti-caking agents may affect flavor, but this
"Sodium Ferrocyanide created from iron chloride, calcium, and hydrogen cyanide."
shows that you are so ignorant, and so sure of yourself that no amount of arguing will ever convince you of anything.

Look up the term "chemistry" sometime. And your not supposed to eat salt plain, it's a seasoning, used in small amounts to flavor food, saying its bad because it burns on its own is like saying that parley is a terrible seasoning because you don't eat it plain. And no you don't get it, I never said anything of the sort. I'm concerned by your apparent inability to comprehend a single thing you've read.

I'm calling you dense because you are adding nothing to the discussion, and you dont even have any sort of point.

What is your point? What are you trying to prove?

Also, on your little chemistry note, sodium ferrocyanide breaks down to cyanide gas in the presence of an acid, like vinegar. Also, cyanide is a heat breakdown product of sodium ferrocyanide.

In the presence of a strong acid like hydrochloric acid. It decomposes at 815 degrees. Also it seems to me that you are the one adding nothing to the conversation.

Serious? You respond to my question with essentially the same thing except with some italics.

My stance is when it comes to steak, minimalism with proper technique is best. Good ingredients, good technique, leads to good results.  No need for mass produced sauces.

So, now that I've answered, what is your stance?

Serious, you asked me what my point was, but at this point it seemed like you longer had one.

My stance is that sauces are unnecessary, but some people like them and that's fine, and does not mean they don't know how to taste.

It wasn't a defence, I was pointing out how your attack on it made no sense in light of your other comments.

So you are saying you formed an uneducated oppinion since you dont have knowledge on the topic. and then continued to argue over something you thought was contradictory because you didnt understand it.

You've been doing a bit of that yourself. Remember when you were telling us how pure sodium tastes?

This thread has been closed.

Reason:
That's quite enough arguing about steak sauce.
