Well, about the time that the Pranksters were running around La Honda, CA, there was this Prestone Antifreeze commercial on TV. They would dip strips of metal in the product and in a competitor's product to coat them, then dip them into a container of some kind os acid, presumably sulphuric. The Prestone-coated strip did not dissolve, but the other could not 'pass the acid test.' Sice LSD is Lysergic ACID diethylamide, I suggest that the two things were conjoined to make a concept into a slogan which was also a 'happening' - Kesey's 'Acid Tests.' I was in the 6th grade, and LSD was still legal then. Just a hunch.
