Sarcasm, Irony & Mockery

Just a reminder that these forms of posting are totally acceptable if they are about something that most everyone in the forum agrees are silly; such as the W.O.D. or that article concerning another culture burying their daughters to protect them from evil spirits. But woe unto thee if you belittle a member's sacred cow.
So it is not the form of communication that is actually objected to, but whether or not it pertains to you or another.

I would say it really depends on how provably wrong the belief in question is. A belief that can obviously be proved wrong or silly (the world being flat, to steal from one of my previous posts) is open to ridicule. A belief that cannot be proved wrong (the existence of God or ET's) shouldn't be mocked unless it was arrived at through completely erroneous methods (reading the intro of an old new age book, among others).

Well, some people seem to connect their sacred cow circuits directly to their ego-attachment and aggressive-defensive circuits. That has never been a good idea.

Christianity liked the idea a whole lot throughout history.

Can't you apply the same standards to books such as The Bible or the Quran? Why are New Age Books any more erroneous than texts from any other religion?

theres a lot of good stuff in the bible. A lot of bs, too. The point is, I didn't read the first few pages of it and accept the whole thing at face value, as someone else in this forum did.
If someone gets a good idea for a belief from a book thats fine. But if they just blindly accepted it without thinking or questioning, they are likely to be ridiculed, and unlikely to be able to defend themselves from such ridicule.
sorry most of my post are real vague and I often forget that my words can be intrepreted in a different way than I meant them by others.

No, it's SACRED to the second power!

Sclorch, your logic must have slipped a cog which is not like you. Are you running a fever? The mushroom CANNOT be sacred BEFORE it is grown. It must FIRST exist. As it is ONLY sacred AFTER it exists, there cannot be any exponential, logarithmic, multiplication of sacredity because of the medium on which it was grown, now can there? Sheesh!

Since time is an illusion, the mushroom always exists.

That may be right, however, if sacredness is a constant, it would be more like this:
? = sacredness constant M = mushroom C = cow
(?C) (?M) = ??(CM)
The nonsacred cow-mushroom complex (CM) would then have to be measured and cross-compared to the ?M(C)-complex and the ?C(M)-complex (the two complexes might NOT be equivalent). Only then can we determine the exact nature of the ??(CM)-complex.
