what is the nicest way to kill a chicken?

I am a vegan but my mom wants to kill some of our chickens to cook them up for my dad.

So what's the nicest way to kill them? I think to catch them while they are sleeping and killing them in that moment would be the best. However my mom already caught 2 and put them in a cage ready to kill tomorrow. =(

They are already freaked out because they were caught and caged and they have never been touched before.

It sucks because if you catch them while they are awake they will cry and fight and be very aware of what is happening.

use an inverted traffic cone to stabilize their bodies while you drain their blood. They'll struggle less, and it looks hilarious.

Yeah a sniper would be pretty good, that way you wouldn't have to catch it and scare it. That's probably the best way. Too bad we don't have a sniper =(

There really isn't any "nice" way to kill a chicken.
One of the main reason I went vegetarian was because I grew up on a farm, saw how chickens were killed in the slaughterhouses, and how they were killed by hand (eg. hold down chicken, sharp knife, cut throat, soak in boiling water to loosen feathers, etc). It was gross and horrible and I believe if more people actually saw where their meat came from / how it was made to them they would think before eating it mindlessly.
The most humane way to kill an animal is to gas it - unfortunately I doubt that is possible.
Another method is high voltage electric shock. That is the one they used in the slaughterhouses.

Wring its neck. If none of you have done this before, and especially given you're clearly conscientious about the ethics behind this, read up on it very carefully. It can be pretty upsetting if it goes wrong. Also, as I assume you are aware, the chicken's body will still go beserk after dying even if you got it right.

Put their head through the inverted cone. They settle down and don't struggle. Then with a very sharp knife, quickly cut off their head. Death is immediate.

That guy is smooth. Definitely do it that way, you'll save yourself the upset of a dismembered chicken body going beserk.

Well, mother killed 2 this morning the old fashioned way before I could show her the video.

Something odd happened: when she left one dead to kill the other one the dead one disappeared from under her nose!  I told her it was an omen..

She is shocked and says she won't kill any more chickens.

I'm vegan too. Your mom's request would be considered abuse if you were a minor. As it stands, her request is unethical, immoral, manipulative of you, disrespectful of your superior empathy, and just plain wrong on all fronts. It's time to stand up and say no. If she wants to kill chickens, then she should assume the responsibility herself. BTW, there are legal constraints about how to humanely kill animals in most places in the USA, but, of course, I don't know where you live.
